Headaches taking Hydroxyurea

I have been taking 500 mg Hydroxyurea daily for a month. Have headaches every day. Is anyone having issues with this? I see the hematologist again in a week.

Hi. Yes, I had an almost permanent headache on Hydroxycarbamide, but since changing to a different drug ( Ruxolitinib) on a drugs trial 9 months ago, my headaches have completely gone. Blessed relief! Good luck with your next appointment.

Headache is a known adverse effect from HU. online.epocrates.com/drugs/...

Hope you can get this sorted ASAP. Thankfully there are other options to HU if you cannot tolerate it.

I am now seeing ENT and will have VNG test to see if I have an inner ear issue. It will diagnose for vertigo/balance/dizziness. Doctor took me off Hydro for three weeks. Will start again then.

It can be tricky since headaches can also cme from the MPN, from the HU, or from something unrelated. Hope you get it sorted out soon.

Unless you find the right dose you will feel one or other thing, headache is one of them. I used to feel some sensation around area between eyes and nose which gone in few months.best luck.

I had assumed my head aches were due to high platelets. Since platelets are lower not as bad . So don't associate with hydroxicarbamide...

No, but I never get headaches. Maybe had one or two in my entire life.

I did not have headaches on Hydrea. Did you start on a lower dose or taking it less often initially?

Do you drink enough fluids ?

I drink minimum of 64 ounces of fluid a day. Told to drink 64 to 96.

I had headaches before starting HU, they have pretty much disappeared since taking HU. I guess we really are all different in our response to medications. Best to you.
