FOREARM RED BLOTCHES

I have ET and JAK2+ and been on the dreaded hydrea for about six years. In the last year or so I have noticed small red blotches appearing on my forearms after working outside, gardening and the like. Just returned from a day out on a hot sunny day of course all screened off with appropriate clothing and hat, when late afternoon felt a stinging on my forearm. When I got home and took off my shirt found a large red blotch the size of a 50 pence piece still stinging somewhat. Anyone had the same?

Hi Michael. Yes, I had the same after being in the sun, but with my arms covered. I found about 6 red blotches on both forearms. The didn't sting, and I just assumed it was a sweat thing. They disappeared after a couple of days. I have PV and I'm finding that any sign of sweating makes me very uncomfortable and is likely to bring on blotches and the dreaded itching. As soon as I feel it start , I head for somewhere cool.

All the best.

I have ET/Jak2 and have been on HU for 2 1/2 years. I also have systemic mastocytosis which affects the mast cells in the blood and can cause blotchy skin, found at the first BMB. I have these blotches most of the time, but they do get worse in the sun, despite Factor50!

I have just had second BMB and am waiting results, as I also have skin rash on back.

Perhaps you need to get tested for Mastocytosis? Or in my case may just be old age??

Yes I also have red blotches on my arms, also appeared on my feet a couple of months ago all seem to be on veins, so saw my GP last week she said it was to do with my ET and the Hydroxy, and that I will have to learn to live with it, very frustrating, as they are quit sore, I smother myself with factor 50 stay in the shade, but I do love gardening and being outside makes me feel so good am at hospital Wednesday week and am going ask them, but not holding my breath as to what is is.
