Hi, we are visting Tenerife in May for one week. My hubby has a MP disorder and is on Hydroxycarbamide + Anagrelide plus other meds for diabetes. We have a letter from his consultant with a list of his meds but I wondered if we need to follow any other procedures/rules for bringing prescription meds into Tenerife. Have been trying to research this but with little success. Just wondered if anyone had previous experience. Have read the MPN leaflets regarding travel.
Any info welcome, thank you.

I have been to all the Canarie Islands lots of times , I even stayed the winter there, for 2 years in a row......just keep ALL medication in the hand luggage and the letter from your doc (which states the medical problem and what medication is needed). The security people was not interested what so ever and the drug dog just walked passed me...I felt a bit ignored!!;-))
Oh, and keep your travelinsurance papers-number in the hand luggage.
Hi, I’ve just returned from La Gomera. As Swede says I kept all my meds and letter in my hand luggage. No problem at all. No one asked to see it. My friend has eye drops so needed to put hers in the clear plastic bag separately, tablets are not a problem.
Can I ask which insurance you use as I also have diabetes. I also have had a heart attack with stent and no-one will insure me for any Spanish Islands or mainland Spain. Thanks. On the other note enjoy your break away.
Hi Anne, I had angina and now have a stent (no heart attack), and PV. I have been to Spain several times as have an apartment there, so travel often. I to have used Staysure, insurancewith.com and ageuk, all with no problems, ageuk also insured me for New York.
Hi Angela, I have tried all these and yes they would insure me for Spain but at a cost of over £400 for one week. We were hoping to go with my son and all his family for a combined family come birthday and had to call of because of all this. So frustrated. I am desperate to get back to the Caribbean again but no-one will entertain me. My daughter lives in Houston and it distresses me that I can never go visit her if anything happens over there. I used Travelinsurance 4medical last year for Turkey and this year for Rhodes. This year at a cost of £107 for 2 weeks. That's with MPD unclassified, Diabetes type 2 and 1 heart attack and 1 stent.
Hi Anne, so sorry you've had to call off your holiday. I expect you have looked at the MPN web site at the list of companies who are sympathetic to us. I'm very lucky my daughter lives near me and my son in Cornwall which makes visiting easy, so I can sympathise with you.
Thanks Angela, yes I have tried them all. The MPN doesn't seem to be the problem, its everything combined. I would just love it for companies to understand that the chance of me croaking it so to speak is a very low risk. Would love to find out how people in worse health manage to get to USA ect.
Thanks Rachel , tried them and they wont. It seems the heart attack and stent that's the problem. Going to Rhodes though, no problem getting insurance for everywhere even far east, but USA, Canada, Caribbean and stupidly enough Spain, tried 40+ company's and its a no go. Never heard of Insurance choice though Mags, will give them a ring for future holidays.
