I have been on Rux for Four years now. And have acid reflux to. They steadily increased the Omeprazole to 80mg but this can can cause long term issues. Last month my GP changed me to esomeprazole. It is a newer more potent version. 20mg has done the trick so I would ask your GP to try you on that.
I have had the same problems as you so it seems ,,
I went onto the majic trial 4 years ago .to trial ruxulitnib
For Cambridge and St Thomases ..hospitals .it has been a great success
For me .i stopped needing venesection at once ,which was something I had been subjected to regularly until then ,when I took the drug hydrocarbamide, every day foe 18 months previously ..
I also suffered with my hiatus hernia ,acid reflux ,,very badly
Especially after eating ,and at night times .but I had major keyhole surgery in March 2016 ..to relieve my vomiting problem ..I radicley changed my diet .
To clean healthy diet ..no alcahole ,no red meat ,fruit and juice ,
No processed food or anything I didn't recognise ..from a packet or a tin ..no ready meals ..no junk food . I'm extremely healthy these days ,I walk well on my new knee ..eat and sleep well and keep active ,
Naturally it's not easy to give up so much ,you have been used to having maybe ,but long term it's much more a happy life !!😘😍😘. Twinkly .xx
I have had a gastric bypass so was prescribed lanzoprazole so was interested in your post as I now have to have a box of Rennie's sitting on my nightstand. Never thought that the hydroxy could be responsible. Will have to ask my GP. Thanks for posting
There is a mild interaction between omeprazole and ruxolitinib in that omeprazole can mildly increase the absorbtion of ruxolitinib but it is not a contra-indication. I'm sure I once read that rux can cause reflux and you probably have a large spleen which will add to the problem. I also take omeprazole on a as needed basis and sometimes need 40mg rather than 20mg but have not noticed any great problems and blood counts don't seem to be affected. Hope this helps.
I took Lanzoprazole for a few years and then about 18months ago my GP changed me onto pantoprazole. Apparently, your body can get used to the medication and then it doesn't work so well. So, you may find that changing onto something similar but different from the omprazole will do the trick. I take Ruxolotinib and I have been on it for 2 years and it has given me my life back. I have experienced 1 or 2 side effects ...... weight gain, constipation and wind ...... lots of wind. So, I have to eat sensibly and have smaller portions than I was used to previously. I take 1 sachet of movicol every evening and I find probiotics in capsule form from the health food shop have eased the wind problem. Otherwise, I'm feeling better than I have in about 10 years. So, I really hope that you do well on the ruxolitinib ..... I think that its great.
Thanks for all your comments I have spoken to my hemo and he suggested i take Gaviscon liquid last thing before bed. This seems to be working. Fingers crossed..
