Asprin versus Clopidolgral ?
Hi Holly,I changed from aspirin to Clopidogerel about a year ago.....I was told the opposite! Was getting tum probs with aspirin,,not sure I am that much different on the C tho!!! You can always change if you do try C and it is not better for you. When I had my carcinoma surgery ,they stopped the C because of bleeding risk, had A for a few days ,then back to C.....Best Wishes Sallyxx
Hi Holly,
I had a major stomach bleed 5/6 years ago whilst on enteric coated aspirin, I was in hospital for 5 days. My consultant changed me to Clopidogrel immediately as it is kinder on the stomach and I have had no problems since. I have never heard about it not working as well with HU. HU has worked well for me lowering my platelets from 900 to around 300.
Best wishes
Judy
Hi judy ,thank you im sure Drs say asprin in first place because its so cheap eh ! Like i said to Sally i do not want to wait for a bleed in view of family history also . clopi still thins blood samt eh yes im on coated asprin at min ,but asprin is asprin eh an irritant ! hooe your doing well ,your platelets good eh i believe mine are now 320 a fortnight ago when i went to see him ,regards Holly x
Hi Holly. I was taking Aspirin for almost two years after having a STEMI. I used both Clopidogrel and Aspirin but managed to get off the Clopidogrel after one year and just used 75mg Aspirin. Was told that I had to stay on Aspirin the rest of my life but I was not happy with that as the Aspirin caused me to have an ulcer which felt sometimes like I was having a heart attack. I was rushed on a few occasions. Other reasons that made me quit were the risk of Stroke, pancreatic cancer, damaging your kidneys and gastric bleeding. The chances of developing an ulcer within the first two years is around 28%. I researched some alternatives and found Pycnogenol, it is a little expensive but the benefits by far outweigh the cost. I have been pain free, my energy levels are up and I feel healthy. Read up on pycnogenol yourself there are articles in the medical journals Pub Med.
Hi Marcus , i looked it up , it doesnt say its a blood thinner though like Asprin and clopidogrel? i can see it is very good for overal health though , im not sure if my heam would agree to me taking this instead ,i had ask him if its okay to take q 10 supplement but it doesnt know anything about this. i know its good for heart and for people who take statins .. its good you are doing well , its my energy levels and fatigue that get to me , he said its okay to take cod liver oil and vitimins regards Holly
I was on clopidogrel due to having an autoimmune probably can't take big aspirin. I was fine on the clopidogrel for a long while . But now I can't take it at all my tummy feels like it's on fire.... but that's not the meds think it's summat to do with me..... hope it works ok for you
Hi Holly, I was told the same thing as you, but after only a few weeks I was having severe tum pains, so was immediately put on clopidogrel. I still have to take lanprazole to protect my tummy but maybe having a hiatus hernia doesn't help. Have settled in to the clopidogrel.
Regards Carole
I was on a combination of Aspirin and Persantin after TIAs until NICE recommended anyone who was on that combination switch to clopidigrel. Unfortunately that switch led to me spending 10 days in hospital with internal bleeding. My consultant immediately blamed clopidogrel as her brother had had a similar experience. I am now back to the original combination. It just shows how different we all are and it is impossible to predict any individual's reaction to any particular drug. I hope you find what is right for you
Best wishes, Jan
Hi Jan thank you yes its hard to know what to do for the best ,in theory my tum should stay protected by taking Lanprazol twice aday but one never knows
Hi Holly, just as a matter of interest, is it the aspirin that has been causing your occasional upset tum then?
Mary x
Hi Mary, they dont know ! seeing as HU can cause stomach discomfort also ,and Asprin is an irritant . The hospital dont really commit to a reason or could be food related , he said to avoid spicy foods though . so im keeping diary on what i eat ( when i rember haha ) best wishes Holly x
There are things I cannot eat without awful indigestion or tum upset, wine or champagne is another no no,I have nexium ,omeprazole.....is it the Meds or getting old? I am advised to avoid all stress......!!How do you manage that without being a hermit? Thank Goodness I can manage a tot of Irish whiskey at apero time...or two even!! Good Idea Holly ,a diary, just another thing to remember tho! Best Luck everybody. Sally xx
Stress is another thing , my hubby is bad for my health ! and makes me anxious to say the least ! but i dont have the guts to leave now in my 60s and not in great health he is 10 year older than me and nip picks all the time also i cant drink much at all rose ok or small beer had nice lunch out yesterday with my friends a 3 course oap special haha. hope your doing well Sally best wishes Holly x
Oh Holly ,that is stress. How difficult to cope with illness with all that going on.I am now in my 70s, have reached the stage now that if I want to do anything,I try to do it,life suddenly becomes very short...I have a friend 93yrs Young ,is not in good health, recently major ops,but is full of life....on her 3rd husband!!! He is 20 yrs younger.....she has made me realise we must not treat age by number......I am lucky ,my hubby is a great support to me, we have just booked a new puppy,it is possible he will outlive us I know....have wrestled with the thought since losing our other dog to cancer....but Holly ,we must have some pleasure......think you will guess what I am trying to say to you. I really wish the best for you and I could not manage without the occasional anti depressant to get me thru the rotten days we have.Very Best Sallyxx
