It's Cannabis Jim But Not As We Know It. . .

Hi Guys, , a relative who is genuinely concerned about my general health situation is suggesting I try something called CBD or Cannabidiol hemp oil which is a by product of Cannabis and accounts for up to 40% of the plants extract.

According to info on the Net. CBD oil is considered to have a wide scope of medical application coupled with a lack of side effects, particularly psychoactivity. It is or has allegedly been used in trial (unsure if UK) to treat severe form of epilepsy and schizophrenia, but I don't know how true this is.

Apparently it is being used unofficially by many cancer sufferers. It remains unclear whether it is actually legal in the UK (not covered by Misuse Drugs Act) but is readily available. ..

Of course I'm under no pressure to try it as I'm my own person and won't allow anyone to force me down a path I don't wish to tread. Also it isn't a cheap product due to the extraction process. My instinct is to steer clear but I'm not against natural homeopathic remedies per say. I would need to be absolutely sure it didn't undermine my daily official drug regime, that my bloods wouldn't be adversely affected and my treatment wouldn't be stopped if I took the CBD. So naturally I would seek advice from my consultant who I have total faith in.

I just wondered if anyone else has used it? heard of it? or has a view to share. No worries if not. Please note that in no way would I recommend anyone be tempted to try these alternatives without discussing it with their health care specialist, I'm simply putting it out to you all for any views you might have controversial as it may be.

Cheers Chris

Hi I have been using CBD spray. It is currently legal although Teresa May is trying to ban it because it doesn't make the Government or big pharma money! I may get closed down on here but what is really effective for cancer is THC which is not cheap and is not legal in the U.K. However, I have met and worked alongside some intelligent people who know much more than me about the endocannaboid system ECS and I know people have no longer got cancer due to treatment however they will always say we never say it's a cure but one guy was terminal and now he's been in remission for a few years and only uses to maintain. I know a girl who would have no life and uses oil by making her own to treat Crohn's disease. There is a clinic in Spain where it is legal with a medical team and if I ever need it believe me I am heading straight there! However I am looking into oil (not hemp oil) proper THC CBD oil to see how that helps not just my PV but my bladder cancer tumours. I haven't found anyone yet with a blood cancer that has had success with Cannabis but I want to or I want to be the one! Nature provides everything we need to avoid, prevent and cure most dis-ease in the body. I wish I knew back then what I know now that's for sure! Still we do what we can with what we can. However some consultants are open to it some are very closed to anything that's not manmade in a lab! Sadly! Check out Rick Simpson if you haven't already and happy to email you links to the Facebook pages/groups where you can ask people and listen to cases and seek some advice.

Meanwhile, happy new year!

Thanks for your very open and honest response Louise. I don't see why you should fear getting closed down its simply a matter of opinions, fact finding and personal choices. Not to mention freedom of speech. Yes it's a controversial topic but we're all adults and responsible for our own choices. I'm interested in all areas of research and treatments for our conditions. I know that my MF is to all intents 'cured' by my transplant but my Graft Versus Host Disease - GVHD is debilitating and long lasting with no signs of easing up.

Feel free to message me with any links as I'm laid up and always looking for things to fill time so I will read up. I happen to believe in nature providing though I've never really tried much beyond the standard stuff at the health store.

A very Happy Healthy New Year to you also Louise. . .

Cheers for now - Chris

in reply toJediReject

Hi Chris, if you're up for a bit of internet reading can I suggest you having a look at HK4health.co.uk? I trained in stages 1-5 and have often wondered whether the GVHD might be alleviated using HK. Basically you're giving your body the opportunity to ask for energy changes that allow it to function better. HK clears allergies by introducing the allergen to the body in a safe way so maybe the body could accept what it's fighting against in GVHD too. I know that if I get to the point of needing a transplant I would certainly be giving it a go. Hope 2017 brings you - and all our fellow MPN-ers - health and happiness and a huge breakthrough cure would be good too!! Best wishes, Chris

JediReject in reply to

Aye Thanks for that I shall most certainly scope it out. You see although I readily accept my stage 4 GVHD takes its time and can't be rushed I do feel that I need to be more proactive in managing my own destiny. . To this end I am happy to consider alternative methods to achieve that.

I echo your comments regarding the fast approaching New Year Chris and once again Thank You for taking the time to reply.

Cheers Chris

I have heard of it but it was from someone who was into conspiracy theories and saying the Govt had a cure for cancer but didn't want to let us know !

Something about the pharmaceuticals .

Also the people who agreed with her had never had cancer .

I'd be no good with it I'm away with the fairies on gas and air when I have a BMB 😂

But I stilll think each to his own xx

Yes Helen I've had someone spouting similar but I take such with a pinch o salt. Prefer to do my own FACT finding and come to my own conclusions. Like you say each to their own. It would be interesting to read some testimony from reliable sources where their cancers have been positively affected.

In the meantime I shall keep taking my daily doses, attending my blood zapping appts and seeing my way to going to the eye clinic.

(Why did the blind chicken 🐓 cross the road? . . . to get to the Birds Eye shop of course 😂😂😂) DOH!!

As an addendum to your joke- I used to be a mobility instructor for visually impaired children. I had one lad who had very poor vision so used a long cane. He was interested in obtaining a magnifying glass so stopped a member of the public to ask them to direct him to a local optician called Sightsavers! I think the poor man thought he was on candid camera!

Happy and healthy 2017 to all

Hello to everyone in this discussion on CBD hemp oil. I respect the right of everyone to state their opinion and to seek whatever they believe will help with their health issues. I am open to alternative and complementary therapies and folk cures. I have seen cannabis in various forms help people living with epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and severe chronic pain, I think it should be made legal and available to those that it could help. However, I have also seen eight good men and women with cancer, opt to use the "special oil" in the hopes that they would be cured or at least delay their death, it did neither. It is a big trend in Dublin over the past few years and I do not know a single person with cancer that it has helped. For me, ag least, I think that I have to be very careful about what I look to for help and relief, very careful when it comes to the human need to, struggle against illness and death any way they can, and be questioning, when it comes to anything, whether it be conventional medicine or not, that offers such hope to people, to me, in a very vulnerable state. And be aware of the profit involved for those who supply this oil and the role this plays in its promotion.

I wish you all well and that you have a wonderful new year.

Thanks for your very balanced response Susieq75. Very interesting and thought provoking. And as you rightly point out there are clearly people and companies making good profit by supplying said oil. And desperate, vulnerable folk are likely to be tempted to try it.

All the very best in 2017 to you and yours . . . Chris

PS my relative is supposed to be popping by today to see if I would like him to source me a sample from a friend of his. , but I wont be pressurised into any decision. Even though he has great faith in it, he doesn't have any ailments so wouldn't need it himself. . I'm sure he means well.

in reply tosusieq75

The issue is because it is not legal oh except one company who supplies the NHS charges huge amounts compared to the actual value, is that we can't necessarily get the right stuff, there are a lot of people selling Trim Oil as THC which is basically the left over cuttings. No one I know has said it is a magic cure. Just like Chemo is not a magic cure.. People need to open their minds and look at the whole picture. For me that means diet, lifestyle the whole lot. The people I know doing really well with chronic illness don't eat McDonalds for instance. For being plant based is the the most powerful tool again dis-ease in the body.. remembering that the word itself sums up nicely disease is dis ease in our bodies. Some cancers are genetic as we know but there are many that can be linked in more and more studies to diet and lifestyle. Like I said earlier I wish I had known what I know now. They need to legalise it but there is no profit to the health care you can't patent it! Oh and Spain it is legal so we need to follow suit. Hemp is the most natural thing which can be used to make clothes, to feed us and to aid our immune system you can even make rope and other things out of hemp yet it's seen as a bad thing! The world has gone mad. Chemo kills more people than it saves.. #justsaying.

Hey you're a dark horse Louise using Sanscrit greeting , people on here never cease to amaze and surprise me with their depth of knowledge. I must admit I wasn't expecting anything too meaningful when I posted this topic but I needn't have had doubts.

Agree with using holistic approach to tackling health issues esp cancer. . I have a varied diet but all home cooked and predominantly uk traceable source.

Don't start me off on the profiteering it's bloody disgraceful to not make something available if there's not enough doh in it. or make it too expensive that it won't get past the authorising body who hold the purse strings.

Hemp is indeed a very versatile and natural product.

Chris, may I add my own perspective to the debate, which you may find useful. I have been taking CBD oil for about a year now and I rely on it so much that I panic when I am left without it for a day. It gives me energy of which I don't normally have a lot, lifts my mood and allows me to carry on with my day. Most of the time, that is. As someone here already said, the oil isn't cheap, and comes in various levels of concentration. I take the highest.

There are lots of things you need to know before you start taking these oils. I was lucky in that before I started, I had met a lot of people who were either taking it were interested in taking it so it gave me some insight as to what I was letting myself in for. First of all, a distinction has to be made between CBD and THC components of the cannabis plant. THC is the psychoactive component which makes users "stoned". CBD is the opposite of that, it provides energy, focus, improves memory. Both have major effect on the digestive system. THC, and therefore cannabis, is illegal in the UK. It is not in some European countries such as the Netherlands, Spain, Czech Republic; and also some US states. CBD is not illegal and can be obtained in the UK from a variety of sources, but it comes from the hemp plant, not the cannabis plant.

The curative properties of cannabis are the stuff of legends, as we all know. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I knew people who used cannabis oil religiously and passed away notwithstanding. I also know people who used it and went into remission although it is hard to say if cannabis was the primary agent because they were using other therapies; and no medical assessment of cannabis use was made on them for obvious reasons. There was a trial of cannabis use for cancer patients in one of Manchester's hospitals (led by a McMillan nurse) some years ago but it was abandoned for reasons I could never get to the bottom of, or maybe understand.

From my own research, it seems to me that the proportion of THC to CBD is crucial. It also seems that the proportion should be different for different cancers; and crucially, that both components should come from the same plant. People grow a variety of hybrid mixes because the different cannabinoids come from male/female plants. CBD is female. From my understanding, blood cancers require a lot of CBD, and so oils with predominantly THC content will have a limited effect. There are some scholarly articles I have come across, which say that CBD may be effective in treating leukemia. There is absolutely nothing about MPNs I could find, although I have met someone who, after extensive research and little result with high THC content oil, moved on to CBD only oil. I don't know the origin of the CBD oil they were going to use, but I suspect it was cannabis rather than hemp. I lost touch with them now so I don't know the results.

There are also the purity and absorption issues. Purity of oils vary enormously and one has to very careful not to load the system with toxins from the irresponsibly made cannabis oil. Always check your source. There are also ways of testing cannabis yourself. There are kits available on amazon.

As regards absorption, there are receptors all over the body which determine absorption. Some drugs, supplements or foods aid or slow absorption, so it's worth checking. I know that turmeric is instrumental in the absorption of CBD and pepper is instrumental in the absorption of turmeric, and I used to take these in a certain order initially but now I just take CBD alone.

If you want to try cannabis oil, remember that the higher content of THC, the more stoned you will be. And I mean seriously stoned if you have not had exposure to cannabis before. You are meant to take a little tiny bit to start off with and eventually increase it to a gram a day (preferably as a suppository; otherwise you will waste about 80% of it). Once your body gets used to it, you will no longer get stoned. The gastric effects apparently persist.

CBD does not produce any psychoactive effects at all. But, as the science goes, the different cannabinoids complement each other and work in tandem. There are also other cannabinoids in the plant, the effects of which are still unknown. So some of it, at least, has to be taken on faith.

Someone has already recommended to you to visit Rick Simpson website. It is good, it describes how Rick Simpson came to cure himself of cancer and it also shows how to make your own oil. But to do this you have to source good quality bud yourself first. There are also lots of You Tube videos showing how to do it.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck. I am sorry to hear you are suffering from bad GVHD but very glad you are around to tell the story.

Hello Daisystar . . Thank you for taking time to help me with such a fulsome and informative reply. I will need to re-read it to soak it all in. It's good to get responses from you peops who have direct experience of taking the product. I'm fence sitting at the moment as I like to research things fully before I sign up, though I think the jury will be out on this for a time yet.

I too am happy to be around to tell my tale as back in April it was nearly a very different story. . . Once again many thanks. Chris x

This is brilliant information! Daisy! I have just run out of my hemp oil CBD spray (G&T flavour) that I got from British Hemp. You are so right about the proportion my friend is still always experimenting what works best for her. I am going to keep this as a note as really wanted to find out about what was best for blood cancer. I heard about turmeric blocking the THC but I wasn't sure about CBD as I often have turmeric and black pepper in my smoothies. I know someone who made suppositories to help lessen the side effects of being completely stoned from THC. It's interesting though as I think I would rather be stoned than have chemotherapy and radiotherapy as a side note (slightly unrelated here I know!).

Hello Chris,

Excuse me for what may seem like a naive question, but what benefits is CBD expected to bring?

Although my initial personal reaction for myself is 'stay away from that sort of thing' - based on ignorance as much as anything, and without any judgment what so ever - I must admit that with cGvHD having the tendancy to bring unwanted 'presents' even when it's no longer Christmas nothing should be barred.

Hope 2017 brings better fortunes.

You know how hard the GVHD can hit and some days I'm finding difficult to cope with , positive as I try to be. Like you I'm in the stay away camp but as time goes on I'm not going to rule anything out but I would want to discuss with my Consultant as I owe him that courtesy at very least. . . Cheers Buddy and best wishes for 2017.

Hey Chris... :)

When I was initially suffering from extreme nausea & fatigue, I too began earnestly seeking information into the use of cannabis oils...

Your response above from 'Daisystar' is generally as I have come to understand the differences between THC & CBD. The THC is the main psycho-active constituent that those wishing to become stoned are seeking, and the CBD, is what is touted as that ingredient that holds some promise for the relief of severe side-effects. Apparently one also still gets the 'munchies' and might therefore be soon piling on the kilos...? Be warned... :)

In Australia, it can be sourced from a variety of places, however, even though legislation may soon be passed that changes all that, at the present it is still illegal even for medicinal purposes...

Nevertheless, I endeavoured to learn as much about cannabis oils as I could. Naturally, the web has a plethora of articles available, but it is often difficult to determine whether or not there might be some type of conflict of interest.

As with all research I do, I find it extremely insightful to ascertain whether or not research articles are genuine, and not just marketing by a third-parties who might be receiving grants for research funding etc.

As of yet, in my own personal view, the jury as they say remains out...

And although I have a few friends who seem to believe anything at all that sounds like a conspiracy... (who don't have a 'C' condition but do smoke) I am not so easily convinced.

Hence, I did start doing some research, and found a few interesting articles well worth a read. I also have access to my university library at the present and am therefore able to access most of the reference materials that I come across...

Happy to email you those articles and reports, and help obtaining other articles, if you wish?

Just let me know Chris...

Best wishes

Steve (Sydney)

I have no direct experience with the oil but I'm currently reading "The Emperor of all Maladies" - a hefty book which takes you through the recognition of cancer and the early attempts to treat it. One of the early drugs -cisplatin did provide remission for some but patients had to suffer through extreme nausea and anti-nausea medication had not been invented so one method to alleviate the nausea was to use marijuana. Also, a friend of mine recently was seeking a medical marijuana prescription for her partner who had terminal prostate cancer that had spread and whose pain was unbearable. Canada seems to be on the route to it becoming legal. Happy New Year everyone by the way.

I must say your choice of reading doesn't sound like an ideal bedtime choice. . think it would give me nightmares !! mind you one or 2 of my choices aren't that uplifting.

I think the time will come when these type of alternative forms of 'treatment' will be legalised and available via health care.
