Totally unrelated to my ET (Jak2) MPN condition I have a chronic debilitating painful heel/Achilles tendon/bursitis issue which is the result of lots of long distance running and tennis. (I am still playing tennis but the day after am crippled!)
It was suggested to me to try CBD oil to help alleviate the pain. Does anyone have a view about this and/or any experience of using this substance. Would be grateful for any opinions! Thanks!

Hi Snowdrop,Like you I love my tennis and get Achilles’ tendon problems, ongoing for the last 10 yrs+. I have tried lots of things but for me I now use magnesium spray on the muscle and DMSO for joints and tendon/ any acute injury. It worked amazingly when I partially fell out the attic in the summer and whacked my elbow, the DMSO reduced the pain and swelling very quickly. Hardly any bruising either. Haven’t tried CBD oil on tendinitis yet but happy to give it a go sometime, maybe later today after tennis 😉
Thank you Amethist! Anything is worth trying to avoid surgery! But I’m mindful of any contraindications! I took my first dose today - will see if it works!! Have fun with your tennis! 👏
I have not tried CBD, but some have reported efficacy. I have been using Curcumin for several years for osteoarthritis and inflammation control. It works better than NSAIDs. I also use L-Glutathione and a fish oil derivative - SPM Active. I work with an Integrative medicine doctor regarding these supplements as the can and do interact with more traditional meds.
Thank you, Hunter, as always for your helpful insight. I am also aware that there may be interactions that can have a negative impact, hence my query to the forum. I have put the question to my clinical nurse specialist. No reply so far!!
Hi snowdrop488I'm thinking of trying CBD oil for back neck and leg pain which I've been having for some time now, I've an apt with my GP next week to discuss possible causes? I don't like taking pain killers everyday so have been looking for alternatives. I came across your post and was just wondering if you got a response from your health team about using CBD oil re- possible interactions with other meds? I'm only taking aspirin for my PV at present and venesection when required. I do take meds for other conditions. Also are you now using CBD oil and if so how are you finding it?
Hi CamelianSorry for the delay - yes I did get a reply. The advice from the heamo was that there are no known contraindications but to be sure to buy the CBD oil from a reputable supplier (eg in U.K. Holland and Barrett).
I tried it for a couple of days but to be honest with you the hemp oil I tried had, for me, a very unpalatable taste so I haven’t continued with it. I saw no effect in the couple of days I tried it.
I’m exploring more physiotherapy and yes, back to the ibuprofen! 🙄
I can’t comment on your situation but as long as something doesn’t harm you, and you’re prepared to pay for the experiment (CBD is not cheap) then give it a go. I also believe in physiotherapy , so that might be a route to explore.
All the very best of luck with finding relief for your pain. Take care
Thanks for your reply Irena I'm sorry the CBD oil didn't work for you and I hope you find something that does work soon🤞 I have an apt coming up with my GP so hopefully he'll have some answers as to what the pain is? he may refer me for physiotherapy ? If so I'll give that a go first. Thanks again for your reply and good luck🤞🤞🤞
