I am due to have a hepatitis B injection at work on Wednesday I forgot to ask the haematology department if it was ok to have it. Does anybody know?

Hi Jackie
Sorry never had that vaccine but was told by haematologist that jabs like flu and pneumonia ok as aren't a live vaccine. i can't I was told have live vaccines as they contain bit of the virus and more risky I might catch it if my immune systems is bit suppressed ( that might be because I am on hydroxy). However don't think Hep B contains live vaccine. If you check that with them and it is not you should be ok. Might be worth giving quick call to your GP ti check though as I am not a doc!
Good Luck with it Lizx
My husband who had MF/MDS and then a SCT has had the first of three hep B injections and haemotology approved them. He is on dialysis and they like all their patients to have them.

Hi Jackie, you will need to tell them what medication you are taking before you have the injection so that they can check that it is ok. Maz
