Hi, I am on loratedine for daytime use and phenergran (promethazine) at night as it makes you drowsy. Someone said in a past post that Sudocrem works directly on itchy areas, have tried and seems to help. My itching seems to be less at the moment. Not sure if this means my PV is changing or whether the tablets have got on top of it. Regards Aime

Hi

I find that Piriton works for me but not for everyone.

I no longer shower bathe or swim ( amazing how non smelly our bodies are actually - and I'm very fussy!) I manage with bidet and basin which has cut down that ghastly pruritis.

I'm very careful with clingy synthetic clothing, walk at least an hour and a half a day to boost circulation, drink 3 litres water / 24 hours - try cutting out sugar and sugary foods, and alcohol.

I use UVB to keep my itch under control, before UVB shower was a pretty terrifying experience, now I shower daily and only have mild itch for 10 mins as opposed to vicious unbearable itch for 45 mins.

Kye PV 2010, venisections, asprin and UVB

Hi Piggie,

I don't get the itches at all, but I'm told that may be because I take Ranitidine tablets to combat acid indigestion... apparently, the anti-itch properties are another side effect of these. Not sure where you are, but here in the UK, you can buy Ranitidine over the counter at 75mg. Mine are prescription at 150mg.

Hi MistyBlue2, I did get the itch and nothing was helping until my Consultant put me on Loratedine 1 a day combined with Ranitidine 150mg am and pm. No more itch, really works because I stopped taking the tablets for a while and it came back. I don't have indigestion probs, it is soley for the itch.

Thanks everyone. I am in the uk and was diagnosed with PRV 7 years ago. Itching has not been much of a problem so far but seems to have got a bit worse lately. Just taking clopidogrel at the moment with occasional venesection. Due to start Hydroxy within the next few months.

I've had PRV for 8 years and have tried various things for itch, but none have been really effective. I avoid water, too, much to my chagrin (love to swim). Luckily, I've been able to wash the smellier bits without itch, for some wonderful reason. My best strategy is to avoid being cool and damp as the itch gets much worse under such circumstances. Even sitting on a cool toilet seat gives me the itch at times of higher humidity (such as now!) When I do force myself into the bathtub, I put Aveeno in the water. Maybe it helps somewhat. If the weather is warm I can get sweaty without itch. Cool and damp is the worst.

My doctor prescribed APO–HYDROXYZINE 10MG ( HYDROXYZINE HCL ). FOR ITCH. The itch was terrible. It works but takes an hour or more for it to kick in. I hope it helps, in the meantime I found putting a wet face clothe on my face helped to ease the itch. Good Luck. PATT

Hi my GP prescribed Cetirizine Hydrochloride 10mg up to 3 times a day. It took a couple of days to kick in but now only take one a day which keeps the itchies at bay. Good luck and hope you find relief sooner rather than later.

Hello

I use cetrizine (Zirtec) for allergy relief which I used before being diagnosed with PRV in 2011 and this seems to work most of the time until the late evening. I use Eurax lotion occasionally. I also use Sanex shower gel for very dry skin. Keeping hydrated is also good. Good luck. I'm sure you'll find a solution.

Steve

I use Ucerex 25mg and it normally works ok, although last few nights not been as effective so may take more than 1 tablet. My itching is worse at night. Not sure if anyone else gets it at night. I do use some amazing skincare products and nutrition that really have been the best things ever.
