Ankle ache

I have Polycythaemia Vera, being treated by venesection plus allopurinol to treat high uric acid. My feet are aching a lot, below my inner ankles, occasionally with sharp pains, noticeably more than before the allopurinol.

Has anyone else had this experience and been able to alleviate the symptoms?

Thanks

What dose of allopurinol and for how long? If not started under NSAID cover it can precipitate or aggravate gout and 300mg is needed for effect unless you have kidney problems.

hi, am interested in your post - I am on allopurinol as a preventative measure, no NSAID (unless aspirin counts). my bloods currently OK - am trying to find out if there is any point in taking the allopurinol. Any pointers?

Thanks for taking the time to comment, skodaguy.

I was put on daily 300mg allopurinol on the same day I had my first venesection, so this is 5 weeks, now. I used to get mild discomfort before diagnosis but now it's very uncomfortable and getting worse. No kidney problem has been suggested at this time.

What's NSAID?

Thanks again.
