An elevated MCV can be associated with alcoholism, Vitamin B12 deficiency, folic acid deficiency or macrocytic anemia.

Thank you. I rarely drink alcohol and only in small quantities, but have slightly abnormal immunoglobulins and a condition called MGUS. Would this cause the raised MCV? I have a blood test every 6 months to check that it doesn't turn into a myeloma.

I'm sorry but I do not know anything about your condition (MGUS) as people on here have MPN (myeloproliferative Neoplasm).

MCV is reported as part of a standard complete blood count. Have you asked your hematologist what maybe the cause of having a high MCV count? And is he/she concerned about it?
