Rebound headache

I'm a long time migran e sufferer, diagnosed with chronic migrane. I've currently got a very painful throat infection, the g.p advised painkillers, until I get the results of throat swabs, but my neurologist is telling me to not take regular painkillers, as I've had rebound headaches in the past. I'm having Aimovig injections but still getting a lot of migranes. I'm trying alternative cures for my throat, that aren't painkillers, but nothing works and I haven't got the luxury of just staying in bed. Had anyone else had the problem with painkillers and are there any non rebound painkillers? Thankyou

I would ask your neurologist or Dr if you can't have pain killers, what do they suggest you have instead

I’m sure you’ve tried it already but if not you could try gargling with aspirin and spit the aspirin out rather than swallow it or gargle with some salt water until you get to speak to your neurologist

Thankyou for your reply, actually, that's a good idea, I've tried salt water gargle but not aspirin, I will give it a go. Thanks

Hi. You need to try the sprays. They work pretty well. Can't write the name here but it is the one with benzydamine hydrochloride. You get it over the counter. Make sure you desinfect your toothbrush each day. Good luck.

It numbs the back of your throat, to help swallowing.

Hello! My neurologist recommends that I avoid painkillers also due to medication overuse headache (I have chronic migraine and experience pain pretty much everyday). He did say that 900mg Aspirin and two paracetamol can be used on the “worst” days, I wonder if this may help your throat pain too.

I also recommend the throat sprays. Either Ultra Chloraseptic or Difflam :) hope you’re feeling better than you were x

Thankyou for you're reply. Sorry to hear about your pain, I'm the same, very rarely have a pain free day. I have tried aspirin on its own, but have to be careful, as I get a lot of acid indigestion, I will try the the aspirin with paracetamol, I have got the throat spray, I have had a throat swabs done, so maybe that will give me answers. Hope you have a good weekend x

I hope you have a good weekend too! I get a lot of indigestion and acid reflux so I am taking omeprazole for that x

For info, omeprazole has been linked to an increase in migraines. healthline.com/health-news/...?
