Aspirin to stop aura
Yes, this was recommended for aura prevention by one of the speakers' at last year's Migraine Summit so I told my daughter who told her neurologist who said it was probably a good idea! In the end he decided to prescribe something else instead but with the same blood thinning properties as aspirin. The dose recommended by the expert on migraine was 75mg, so very small.
Thanks so much will ask when i see mine
Hi Tigipus.
I take aspirin for aura migraine. I must admit I haven’t had an aura migraine since being on them. I understand that aspirin is not good to be on because it can cause bleeding in the brain. I’m wondering if you know or can find out which medication your Daughter is taking as if the risks are lower it might be an idea for me to take.
Hi mavary wasn’t me who had the daughter on meds but I thought aspirin was bad for stomach bleeding and ulcers and omeprazole prescribed to help with that, so not sure best ask your doctor, I will ask mine when next go sorry can’t be of help
Aspirin can cause stomach ulcers if taken for a long time on daily basis. Usually PPI such as Omeprazole or Lansoprazole etc can limit the damage within stomach but there is also a concept that PPI itself can trigger migraine if taken daily ! So, no easy way out. I wonder why Aspirin gel or spray is not made available for human - it is given to pets/animals. Topical Aspirin can cause far less damage to stomach than its oral form. However another bad news is, any NSAID medicines (Ibuprofen, naproxen etc ) can also damage the stomach lining and cause ulcers if taken regularly. But people (like me) who get migraine have to take painkillers ! Paracetamol does not always work and it also can damage liver, kidney if taken regularly !
Sorry Tigipus.
I read yours which was one down. Thanks for replying. I believe the new thought for aspirin is that you can get brain bleeds taking it.
