Hi I have been a migraine suffer for the last 10 years. I have tried everything over the years in the last few months I have been getting migraine twice to three times per week and they are now unmanageable. My GP has recommended topamax I have always avoided this due to the side effects. However I am now in a position where I have no choice but to try it . Has anyone else tried this I am apprehensive ??? Has anyone else tried the calcium channel blocker
Thanks
Lynn

Yes, I tried topamax for 10 years. It does have a lot of side effects but I was able to work, have a social life and feel normal (before migraines). I've stopped taking it because it stopped working.
Hi, worked for me for a year or so (side effect of tingling extremities gradually subsided to nothing), then gradually stopped being so effective. My gp altered dosage (up & down), but it ended up not working at all, so i too stopped.
Now taking a combo of Amitriptylene & Propanolol. Early days, but it seems to be working. Once again, everyone is so different. Good luck
I've just seen two Neurologists and been diagnosed with silent migraine ( constant , with aura)
Never had anything like this in my life ! So debilitating too
I've just been prescribed Topiramate and I'm hoping it'll work and get rid of the constant drunk feeling , fatigue and visual / concentration problems . I feel shattered all the time
I tried Topemax for about a year until I couldn't take it anymore. I had the common side effect of the numbness and tingling in my extremities but if that was it I would have stuck with it. My biggest issue was that I felt like I was in a cloud all the time, like I was on the outside looking in on my life. One specific time I was in class and raised my hand to speak and when the teacher called on me I just lost my entire train of thought. I couldn't even put together a complete sentence. This was the breaking point. And in addition to all that, I didn't really find that it made a difference in the frequency of migraines either. A little background: I started getting migraines around age 14 and they were debilitating and came very often (2-3) times per week. I am now on a combination of fluoxetine (for anxiety) amitryptaline (for migraines). I'm now down to maybe 1 or 2 migraines a month. It (only) took 10 years to get here lol
But as for you, medications work differently for everyone, some people love them, some people hate them. You do what works for you. I hope for the best!
