Hi Torieb I have been taking Nortriptalyn for nealy 2 years, but not for my migraine. 3 years ago I started with abdominal pain, various investigations, treatments, operations they are unable to find a cause, so they have put it down to nerve pain. I take topriamate as a propholaxis for my migraine and started on Amitriptyline but it caused nextday drowsiness. this was changed to Nortriptalyn. I noticed a change within a couple of weeks, of both my abdominal pain and my migraine.

I am interested in this as well as I have been prescribed it only yesterday as I am a chronic migraine sufferer and this to be frank is the last medication after lots.

Have been on toprimate for many years and worked successful until about I would say 6 - 12 months ago. My neurologist said that it has reached the end now and so prescribed a beta blocker but after taking it for about 10 weeks the side effects were terrible and no effect on the migraines.

Started notriptalyn yesterday at 10mg and it will be increased each week by 10mg up to a 50mg dosage. I'm hoping it will work as if not then it will be BOTOX.

I just came off of topiramate and started beta blocker, metoprolol. May I ask what your side effects were?

Toprimate side effects initially were lack of appetite, foods tasting wierd and pins and needles. The pins and needles are there still to be honest on the left side of my body but, though my consultant can't totally say it was the cause of the chronic migraines, they only started after I had bacterisl meningitis back in 2014 and since then I have suffered with my left side of my body. The side effects were manageable once I got used to them as toprimate was effective against the migraines. It unfortunately became less effective after I had viral meningitis in 2018.

The beta blockers caused horrible nausea and dizziness. To the point that one minute I could be standing the next down like a sack of potatoes.

I have known them to be successful for people, one drug does not fit all. I am hoping this latest one is successful for me as I have tried everything else to no avail except got the toprimate for 4 years.

Thanks for responding. I have been having insomnia and haven’t figured out if it’s my brain recovering from 12 years of topiramate or the beta blocker

Insomnia has not been a side effect that I have suffered on any of the medications. Drowsiness and being being able fall asleep at the drop of a hat yes.

I am still taking the toprimate alongside the nortriptalyn as that's what I have been told to do which I find strange as it's not effective anymore.

Withdrawing from topiramate was difficult for me. I went very slowly. Three months total. It was sedating, and I took it once a day at bedtime. I’m guessing that’s why I’m having trouble sleeping now, my brain got used to that. It will pass, I’ll just have to wait it out

Hi - I have been taking nortryptalin for several years, along with Sleep Aid from Kirkland, which I get online. The combination has changed my life beyond recognition - I used to suffer from several migraines a week from the age of 21 till my late 50's and they ruled my life - I may get severe headaches, but not migraine, once or twice a year and can resolve any other headaches with just Ibuprufen or Paracetamol. I wish you the very best of luck, whatever route you decide to take.
