Anti-depressant drug effectiveness.

Over recent few years I have tried at different times: Sertralline, Citalapram, Mirtazapan, Duloxetine & currently taking Vortioxetine (10mg). Nothing so far has boosted my mood such that I notice amy positive effect. Do I persevere ? It feels pointless to be frank. Thanks.

My experience with anti depressants and anti psychotics was even more detrimental than the actual mental illness what with allergic reactions to many of them for one..

I think we have to evaluate for ourselves and weigh up the pros and cons of using them..

The only thing I found helpful was taking time out to heal and learning to master my mind and not let it master me..

Thanks for your replies. Yes, there are unwelcome side effects to assess. Plus, I have gained no mood lift from any AD drug taken so far. I understand though that they do work for some people very well. Thanks again.

You have tried all the main, common drugs over a given time, I gather you must have not given the medications time to work. The problem is the list of AD medications is not infinate and you need to be patient to get the desired effectAsk yourself how long have you given each medication to work. The problem changing drugs like these is every time you change you need to give the next drug time to get out your system on the next on a further extended period.

Be patient !!!

I was thinking this myself today Bob. I’ve been on venlafaxine for 9 weeks now and really don’t know if it’s helping or not.Trouble is all I focus on is that I still have the anxiety for most of the day.

Nine weeks is not that long, are you still suffering Side Effects. Sometime we need to allow several months to get that build up. Generally it takes five weeks after starting your medication then you need to be patient to get the medication working. The problem is if you ask for a change sometimes we need to allow time for one drug to get out of your system and then to allow time for the new medication to work.

I take Citalopram and have been on them for several decades, now no side effects. try not to worry be patient. The problem is getting an appointment at the Surgery at this time can be hard work. Stick with the drug a bit longer

Do you have a Therapist . They may be able to help

Thanks Bob. I was on Citalopram for years and was brilliant the only thing was I wasn’t sleeping so doctor persuaded me to change to Amitriptyline, biggest mistake of my life. Went back on Citalopram but didn’t have the same effect as before but then the anxiety wasn’t the same. Before it was more panic attacked where now I think they call it GAD as anxious as soon as I wake up.I’m under mental health so going to give them a bit longer.

Still not sleeping so they’ve now given me promethazine to try and help me wean off diazepam.

I feel like I rattle when I walk with all these tablets.

I take a reduced dose of Amitriptyline, for nerve and tendon damage it is a positive side effect of the drug. This medication is quite old I have been on them now for many years, You are better with Citalopram.

Have you tried MINDFULNESS Relaxation Technique if you are having problems sleeping and relaxing. It may help. You can purchase books on Amazon, for about £10.00.

When you talk about the rattling I must be taking upwards of eleven different medications and I get another one tomorrow. The rattle, very musical
