New to Sertraline

I'm new to Sertraline. Been on 50mg for just on 5 weeks now. At first anxiety was awful, worse than I have ever felt. Felt sick, couldn't eat and felt lousy. Then began to feel better slightly and that improved each day.

Now I feel as bad as before I started taking them. I am so down and sobbing constantly but really dont know why. GP said he will up the dose at the end of the next pack, so that will be 8 weeks.

Is this normal?

That’s not been my experience with Sertaline. I started out with Citalopram (which was rough starting up), but moved because it wasn’t working. My Vet asks for me to give new meds 6-8 weeks, so hold tight. Reading around the blogs, it seems that almost everyone tries a few types before they find one that really works.

Best,

T.

Yes it is normal to increase a medication mid term, so you are following a well worn pathway.

You will get side effects until you get used to the dose. It will take a further two weeks when the increased dose is given

It is always best that you do not change medication to a new one without giving the initial one a chance to work. The problem is many GP will not return to an earlier drug so if you go through the list eventually you may miss the one that is suitable for you. The number of Anti- Depressions is not never ending.
