Face tingling : I’m 5 weeks on 10mg... - Mental Health Sup...
Face tingling
Sorry to hear that! I’m 8 weeks in on same dosage for moderate GAD and it is working well although only after a month or so did the benefits really kick in. A few side effects such as skin a bit itchy and quite hard to get going in the morning.
Give it another week. Have you spoken to your doctor?
Not as yet was thinking of going to the hospital as really not feeling myself/well
See how you feel tomorrow. Go see your doctor then. It will probably help to speak to the doctor who prescribed the drugs rather than a random emergency doctor that doesn’t know your history. Take it easy...😊
Thanks for the reply yes I’ll see how I feel in morning take it from there I guess
Try and give the drug more time to work, if you have a need to check the drugs side affect you could look on the internet, there are sites that explain any contraindications.
Also check on NHS Information page, you may find additional information there.
Sometimes we look at various side affects as drug induced ?, however you also need to consider other reasons, like today we have been out on the beach, our skin is tingling with the coastal air and sun. The sun can also make the skin tingle. I is important you know your own body when it comes to side effects we look at various signs that could be quite normal and if we are anxious we make problems where there is none.
However if not happy, give the medications a little more time, six to eight weeks then see your GP an explain your concerns. Remember however you and everyone needs to take control of their health, we all need to be able to take control of our health and other concerns

Thanks reply feel like I’ve been here before I’ll see how I feel next few days
Hi Jamesh77,
Paraethesia or tingling sensations are common undesirable effects of taking escitalopram. Usually it takes 2-4 week for a therapeutic anti-depressant dose to take effect and should be continued for at least 6 months. Here is some more information:
Medicines Compendium UK - Escitalopram:
1) Pharmaceutical leaflet: medicines.org.uk/emc/produc...
2) Patient information leaflet (PIL): medicines.org.uk/emc/files/...
If you are not feeling any better now after 5 weeks, then you should really speak to your doctor and have a medication review. I agree with BOB and the other members who have advised to keep taking it longer. There is no one-size-fits-all with medications and everyone responds differently, but don't suddenly stop taking it either, as you can experience unpleasant withdrawal effects. Your doctors should be closely monitoring you as you start a new medication.
Best wishes,

Thanks feels like it’s been a rough few weeks
I wondered how you were doing on the meds. It really took a long time for them to get me to where I am now. I’d say 8/9 weeks. But they really are helping me as I feel really well now 😊
Hi thanks for the reply glad to hear your feeling better I think I’m about 6 weeks on 10 mg I don’t feel great feel like I’m stuck in my head most of the time and feel lethargic no motivation to do anything the last week has been pretty bad really think I’m due another doctors visit
Has the tingling gone by the way?
Keep at it! I truly didn’t turn corner until 8 weeks properly - 2 steps forward and 3 steps back. Strange the way these meds work. 😊
Thanks hopefully next few weeks will improve as for the tingling it can be all day some days and today I’ve hardly really felt any 🤷♂️
Hi Jamesh77. How’s the head & face issues? Hoping you are doing okay 👌
Hi thanks for the reply the face tingling doesn’t seem to be as bad just feeling not really with it at the minute I did miss a tablet last night could explain how I’m feeling today. How are you feeling 🤔
Hi there. I’m feeling very good but as I said before it took more than eight weeks to start feeling better than I was before taking the medication. I just think for some people it takes a lot longer. I’m my best self I think. Sleeping well and no anxiety et cetera. Best wishes😊
Thanks glad to hear feeling better are you taking the 10 mg of citalopram 🤔
10 mg of escitalopram (Lexapro) not Citalopram. Same as you I believe? Weird what these meds do to cause such side effects. Definitely worse before better. That’s why I encourage you to give it longer. Besides coming off would likely mean you have to go through withdrawals! I hope you are starting to feel some benefits. How long have you been taking this now? 🤔
Yes I’m on 10mg about 7 weeks on this did do a few weeks on 5 mg prior and was on fluvoxamine for about a month before .. Yes i will stick with it for abit definitely not wanting to go through the withdrawals yet
