Alternative to zopiclone

Hi all can anybody recommend something herbal or over the counter that works just as well as zopiclone. As I like the drowsy feeling from zopiclone and it keeps me asleep and away from sleep paralysis.... which btw is totally horrifying! Any help or recommendations would be truly appreciated xx

Have you tried melatonin or tryptophan? I use both, not daily but when I feel like I might have a problem falling/staying asleep.

I have also read that passiflora is a good remedy for sleep problems but have not tried it yet. Make sure you don't take B-complex and D-vitamin in the evening as these may disturb your sleep. Such supplements are best taken in the morning.

Hi There are several over the counter medicines for insomnia. You can try herbalist shop as they have a good non drowsy medicines.

Hi Jem.

You're unlikely to get anything wih the same sedating effect as zopicline over the counter. Many of the otc sleep tablets are antihystemine based which can make us feel tired but not sedating as such. Melatonin isn't used much in the uk and is more widely used to regulate sleep cycles. In the uk its only licensed for those over 55 (but more widely used in other countries).

Meds like zopicline only work in the short term as our bodies habituate to it and we get less effect over time. Have you ever considered psychological therapies such as CBT for insomnia? They can work really well and provide a much longer term benefit, though can be hard at first.

Good luck in your search!

Tom
