Hi Everyone

After my depression seemed to deepen I went to see I have been to see the doctor got upset talking to her and decided to start on some meds and have got some counselling through work starting on Monday.

I'm on sertraline 50mg once a day for a week then 100mg plus propranolol 80mg 1 daily only started on Tuesday but awful side effects dry mouth, pounding headache and swollen lips but the worst is the insomnia and hallucinations and I feel much more anxious than before starting them, very early days I know but is this usual?

Any advice please

I’d give the gp a call and see what they say. I hate side effects of meds :(

Yes the hallucinations and insomnia aren't the usual side effects so get in touch with doctor even phone nhs 24 now as a precaution- can u tell us you've done that

Hi Redcol, I agree with DMM and PhoenixMert, that you should give your GP a call. If they're not open over the weekend, speak to the pharmacist who dispensed your medication, as they are the experts in how drugs are made, interact etc, and act as gatekeepers to GP's and can speak with the GP if necessary too. Another non-emergency out-of-hours source depending on which part of the UK you live:

England and Scotland: NHS 111

Wales: NHS Direct 0845 46 47

Northern Ireland: Go to this website for the different regional telephone numbers gpoutofhours.hscni.net/

Remember for all emergencies call 999

Take a look at NHS Choices website for more information about anything health related. Here's the link to Sertraline, and when you scroll down through the information you will see that insomnia is a side effect, but hallucinations are not.

Definitely get in contact with a health professional as soon as possible.

Keep in touch and let us know how things are going. Best Wishes.

I would suggest you see your GP as soon as you can. In the meantime I would speak to a pharmacist at a local chemist. Failing that ring your out of hours doctor or 111 today for advice.
