Working part time to Alleviate stress.

Hi everyone. This is my first post here. I was diagnosed with bi polar/major depression /anxiety at 15. Im 28 now and also 2 1/2 years sober from heroin. I take 3 medications for my illness and I've come extremely far. Life is great, but still has its ups and downs. I work 4 days a week because I feel overwhelmed and get really exhausted and cranky if i work more then 4 days. My medication makes me really tired so i sleep a lot so having 3 days off to do chores, go to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, therapy, playing with my emotional support dog, and just relaxing is very helpful. The problem is I feel extremely guilty and irresponsible for not wanting to work full time. Financially I am ok because I live with my parents. I am very lucky to have such great family support. Sometimes my manager will ask if I can work more and I say no, and then I feel like I am a lazy bum. I feel like having a mental illness is not an excuse to be so easy on myself. I cant tell if I am being way too hard on myself or if I need to work more?

Congratulations on your sobriety . That is a stellar accomplishment. Now you know the truth about yourself, you are strong, but why change what is working? You have plenty of time to do more in the future and now you have one. Pam

Hi Leomylove.

WELL DONE , and as for work , try to keep it to four days , you need time for yourself , time to heal , time to live again . It's not worth getting on that slippery slope again . Once more congratulations , what you have achieved is harder than a high level college course
