Have you any idea how it all started and why you may want to hurt yourself? I know you don't want to go to the doctor but they don't always just give pills. If you get a good one who has a bit of time they may be able to listen as well and put you in touch with an appropriate organisation. If you are in Scotland as your username suggests Action on Depression who organise this forum and who also have their own website can help.

Talk to the Samaritans and tell them how you feel, maybe they can give you some direction

Hi pills can be very helpful to help you feel a bit better before you go for counselling. It doesn't mean you have given in or that you will be on them for a long time.

You do need to visit a doctor as this obviously isn't going to go away on it's own. x
