I have been taking 20mg of Fluoxitine for a couple of months now and p until a few days ago I thought it was working. For no real reason the last few days have been difficult and my mood seems to be getting lower.
I understand 20mg is a low does - just wondering what others thought?

Hi sjp
Like you I've been on the same drug & dosage for almost the same length of time (about 6 weeks for me). I have been told it's the lowest dosage & first meds lots of doctors prescribe as a starting point. I don't feel like they have worked or helped much at all if I'm honest. I plan on requesting an increase in dosage. As it is the lowest we each probably have to be realistic in our expectations, it might take a little while to find the right drug/dosage for us.
Even with meds, there will be days when moods can dip, or circumstances mess us up. I'd think about giving yourself some time to see if you get out of the dip with just giving yourself a little extra TLC.
Pills don't work all of the time , there are many of us taking AD and we still have bad days ... I was once taking 60mg of citalopram only for my gp a year later to tell me the dose is too high and can be unsafe .. pills do help but they wont make every day a good day . xx
i think fallenangel has phrased it very well, for myself the meds help, they gave me the chance to be in a position where i could begin to look again at self-help ideas. I know there are waiting lists for "talking therapies" but anti-depressants work as One Half of the equation. It has to be a case of investigating ways of changing how our thinking works as well. Just like meds, if one style of self-help / therapy dies not suit, then try another, once you have given it a fair chance..
