Dreading each day.

Hello again, I've been to the doctors and I have been put on some medication however I've been on them nearly two weeks now and they do nothing, I'm starting to regret going to the doctors, But I wanted to ask because I have anxiety I can't go out and depression I dread every that comes, Is there anyway I can get out of this? each day seems so pointless.

You say medication? Anti-depressants?

she put me on anti anxiety low dosage first, but its not doing anything, I only spoke to my gp for about 10 minutes though :S

Not really sure what you are taking but as "hopetobehappy" says it takes a few weeks for them to work and get into your system.

It takes time for them to work, the first couple of weeks are the worst as you get side effects and no real benefits yet! Persevere, and go back to your gp and make sure they hear what you have to say if you are worried! Don't stop them suddenly as that's bad, go back to gp..xx good luck xx

When you say anti anxiety medication, exactly what have they given you by name? It's difficult to assess your position without knowing exactly what you're taking.

Everyone here, understands,,, but these drugs take time to build up in your system, so a month, onwards,, little by little and maybe the dose needs raising, but it has to be done slowly, these are strong drugs!! it cant be done suddenly,, it just cant, ie you couldnt give a masive dose of a class A drug,,, something not nice would happen.

So please hang on,, it is the depression tht is making you feel like this, its a illness,,, its not you,,, your still in there. The depression make you feel life is worthless, ect ect...YOu are worth fighting for. weather the storm,,your ill,

So just do things that youhave to do, be patient, tell the depression to naff off,,, your a wonderful person, and you are going to come back, get angry at it for even suggesting life isnt worth it,,, because it is!!!!

It may take time to feel better,, littleby little it will.!!!

Remember something wonderfull that happened in your life,, and it will be again,, hang on to that! were here for you,,x Linda

keep going with the medication - it does take a while to kick in. Study a few years ago also showed that taking medication for a year seemed to have the greatest impact in terms of preventing a recurrence of anxiety.

Anxiety and depression are often very closely linked - it is usual to treat the anxiety first as this is usually what triggered the depression.

Visualisations can sometimes help with anxiety - to give you a concrete example. I got really upset (REALLY upset) with something someone had done at work - wasn't something they should have done but shouldn't have upset me as much as it should. Fortunately we have a works counsellor and he suggested visualising putting her in a large cage, which worked. The thoughts come and you can't really control that but you do have a choice about the way you react to them. The medication can/will help with that. I was on prozac (fluoxetene for a while) and one lasting side effect is that I can let go of other people's bad driving now - before I would get so wound up about it but that has lasted. I still get anxious about a lot of other things - and when I do I end up thinking about death because it is an end point and it is comforting to know that there is an end to the anxiety but that started to spook me so my brain would keep issuing out more thoughts about death and how to achieve it and I was in a vicious spiral. The visualisation I use for that is an unwanted caller and I've stopped hiding in the house whilst the knock and started opening the door and politely telling them that I am not interested today. It seems to be working at the moment for those.

I think that using death as a way of relieving anxiety is quite an instinctive one as I had a friend who isn't a depressive tell me that they remembered being really upset by someone when they were on a university campus and as they went over a bride crossing a deep ravine they just had a thought about how nice it would be to end it and jump over the edge of the bridge. I think it had the effect of shaking him out of the train of thought and focusing him on other things. It's just that for some of us the mechanism goes wrong and we get stuck in a loop.

should have said treatment for a year has the greatest impact on preventing a recurrence of depression.

And death most definitely isn't the only way out of depression and anxiety

There are about 30 or more Ant-depressant medicine .If you have been taking the medicine you are taking for more than two weeks or so and nothing good to help is happening go back to the GP . Medication can be changed .Not all medication is suitable for all patients, until the right one for you is found you will not feel better and you should be patient it takes weeks for medicine to take hold of your circulation system .

Do some exercises they help a great deal and you will do yourself a tremendous help by not concentrating on your depressive condition ,but look on positive side of your life ,try to busy yourself with school work if you are at school or communal activities .

Ant-depressant medication work to help activate your happy mood which is not natural and come to an end when you stop taking them.

Read on depression ,books will give practical help and if you follow them you will see a big change in life ,they are a lot of books on depression in public libraries .By the symptoms you can even tell the severity of the depression
