Might be worth trying an antifungal cream for say a week. Should do no harm and if it eases your condition, it confirms it's a slight fungal infection. My gp recommended Daktarin once for me. It's similar cream to what helps athlete's foot. Easy to get from a pharmacy over the counter.

Sometimes treating a skin problem with the wrong medication can make it worse.

As Osidge points out, wrong use of topical antifungals can cause more problems:

What are the side effects of topical antifungals?

Burning or stinging.

Rash.

Sensitivity reactions.

Skin irritation (redness, peeling, swelling).

Clearly, if you try an antifungal cream as I suggest, you'll need to watch out for these and stop using the cream if you experience these. If your skin is infected with a fungal organism and you use an antifungal cream, it should only improve, not worsen your condition.

Something like Canestan or nappy rash cream is a good place to start.
