penile thrush

I am a diabetic and have just discovered I have a yeast infection on my penis. It’s quite painful and I can pull my foreskin back. Any ideas for treatment?

Your local pharmacist should be able to supply you with clotrimazole anti fungal cream. If your diabetes is poorly controlled then there is a high chance of recurrence. Best wishes.

Let me endorse xsevenx's post. He writes wisdom!

Best wishes for a speedy clear-up of the infection.

The other replies are good. Before I was diagnosed with diabetes I also had thrush. My best advice is to drink water until it’s coming out of your ears. The sugar in your pee is burning you.

Yes, what xsevenx said. In the UK for instance you can buy it over the counter, there is a stronger version with hydro cortisone in but that's probably only on prescription. Both are used to treat vaginal thrush too, not that Ive ever had that!If peeing is burning I recently came across D-mannose which is the active ingredient in cranberry juice and is available from health shops in tablet form, that works well.

cortisone and other steroids can feed yeast so it's best to stay away from it.

Agreed - The HC version is only on prescrption.

Oh really? We can get it here in the US

No it's prescription only here, the non HC version of clotrimazole is 'over the counter'. HC cream on its own is also 'over the counter'

Thomas did you mean to say “can’t”? I’m gonna assume you meant to say can’t pull it back - I had the same before but made the foolish mistake of forcing it back to wash it and I now have had a circumcision as my foreskin was never the same after.

Take some fluconozole for the thrush and let the foreskin pull back again of it’s own accord. My doctor told me I should have just waited for it to natural loosen up again and retract easily. Hope this helps

Clotrimazole usually will kill it. Try wearing your foreskin retracted.

I have found these instructions work if my son gets a yeast infection but make sure you follow them 100% or it may come back. So appt frequently and continue for 6-7 days. You may want to discuss your diabetes treatment plan in case it needs to be better controlled

Apply clotrimazole/lotrimin 1% (an over-the-counter anti-fungal available at pharmacies, super stores, and even the dollar store!) topically to speed healing time. If you feel something stronger is warranted, a doctor can prescribe Nystatin cream or antifungal tablets

apply anti-fungal cream every 2 - 3 hours for 72 hours or until external symptoms disappear. Continue applying 2 - 3 times a day for another 72 hours after symptoms clear.

Do not apply cornstarch (baby powder)

Try a soak in a bath with 1/4-1/2 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar. Apple Cider Vinegar is a natural anti-fungal and will help eliminate the yeast.

Mix Apple Cider Vinegar with equal parts water and wipe directly on the penis. It will be soothing and will help to eliminate yeast.

Soak underwear in vinegar then wash hot with bleach and dry hot.

You need a combination of things.

1) An appropriate regime, overseen by your doctor, to reduce the effects of diabetes.

2) An appropriate strong anti-fungal medication from your doctor to kill the fungus.

3) Circumcision to remove the dark, damp area under the foreskin in which the fungus can flourish. Without this step the fungus WILL return once the anti-fungal medication is stopped'
