General anaesthetic or local? I’ve had local. It wasn’t as bad as I had expected.

Local. But last time 'Dr Filgrave' didn't let the anaesthetic act before putting the scope in. It is mercifully quick, but I think, and have told guys in a similar position, that the dentist(*) is worse.I can think of better ways to spend a Friday afternoon though.

(*)No, never had a cystoscopy at my dentist.

Agree. The secret is to give the anaesthetic time to work. My delay tactic is to change position and/ or initiate a conversation to prolong the anaesthetic to scope time.

Sound. I will try and remember this tactic.

Did you get an erection when the scope went in? I did. Nothing was said, and I was covered up pretty quickly once the cystoscopy was completed.

Kinda like sounding!

Ha ha, true! I’ve never had the nerve to try it though.

I'd sooner tear off my own skin and roll around in a vat of salt.

Er no. Room full of nurses buzzing around, bright lights, people walking in and out, Dr Filgrave looming with his weapon, and as per above, the lack of effective anaesthetic on the meatus (every day is a school day - I've just looked this up).

Oh have I got a story for you. I had prostate cancer in 2019. The day came where I had to have the 3 gold fiducials placed as well as SpaceOAR. I was on my back on a table with my legs up in stirrups and a sheet was placed over my knees so I could not see the doctors when laying down. I had an ultrasound probe deep into my bum and they were sticking 6" needles into my perineum. At one point, I decided to sit up a bit and take a look over the sheet. The door to the room was wide open and there was an audience of about 6 people watching including a good looking young lady that gave me a big smile. I think she was the rep for the SpaceOAR company. Nothing like putting it all out there!

Ha ha. When I had my TURP I asked the nurse to help me put on the gown (NHS gowns are difficult to put on if you have less than 3 hands). I said to her, if I hold the back of the gown to retain my dignity could she do it up, she said, 'oh don't worry, you left your dignity in the car park'

I've only ever had one, but it didn't take long and hardly hurt at all. Mine included retrieving a "double J catheter", which had been put there due to kidney stones. It was all over in under ten minutes with no recovery time needed.

rather have the cystoscope than the colonoscopy had both a few times now n yep camera down penis was easier

I’ve had both too. The worst thing for me is the bowel prep prior to the colonoscopy.

Yes, also had both. Mental effort not to do a huge number 2 on the technician operating the camera up my bum was immense as the enema had only partly worked. Quite possibly too much information here :-)

Hi - is it a rigid or flexible cystoscopy. According to research on pubmed, waiting 3 min for the anaesthetic gel made no difference and another article stated that there was no difference between anaesthetic gel and plain lubricant. The outpatient treatment is apparently well tolerated but then its not up my willy (so far). Good luck .

Thx. It should be a Flexi. Last time I wasn't really looking. Hopefully they'll have given it a good wipe since then.
