What is a “normal” foreskin?

As an older guy, I feel a little foolish and or embarrassed about even having to ask this question.

My wife and I were married young and neither of us were very experienced. My foreskin has always been tight, I can retract it behind the head when flaccid ( slowly and cautiously) for cleaning, but it is a bit of a faff to return it . Erect, it is pretty uncomfortable to even attempt. During sex, I’m very aware at which point the foreskin has been pushed back over the head ! Afterwards, I have to physically pull it forward again.

Recently, I got a yeast infection and did some reading which helped me clear that issue up but I read a lot of interesting articles and now I am wondering if what I experience is “normal”?

Is the foreskin supposed to slide easily over the head even when fully erect?

To answer your last paragraph - yes. Perhaps you should have a word with your doctor. (If you can!)

what you our describing buddy is me 7 plus months ago. I finally had balls to ask a dr to take a look - id been too embarrassed to for many many years and they fixed me!! Best decision I ever made!!!

Take a look at some of my previous posts for details but please ask a Dr for an opinion! Aged 50… was best decision I ever made!

I am also older and have had similar problems to you, with tightening and discomfort during intercourse, much more so in recent years. It should not hurt for the foreskin to retract or return over the glans. Owing to balanitis and the tightness problem I had a circumcision 3 months ago. The surgery went well and I have to say things today are a lot less complicated, the balanitis is gone, obviously there is no tightness, and hygiene-wise it is easier (no risk of urine dribbling in the foreskin area) etc. However the down-side is that intercourse is v different. There is no longer any sensation of the foreskin moving during intercourse which has reduced the pleasure for me. The payoff is there that is no discomfort whatsoever, so we are trying to find different ways of achieving the sensations which right now have been lost.

From the description you've got a partial-phimosis: inability to move the skin when you get erect. I'd seriously consider talking to yr GP about a stretching programme or surgery.

That was me before my circumcision 21 months ago. In my younger years, everything worked great and everything was functional. In my 40's, I noticed that my foreskin was gradually tightening and feeling uncomfortable. Near the end, it felt better to leave my foreskin retracted. This ended up being a great idea because it got me used to being exposed before I got the circumcision. I have no regrets at all.
