Is this scar tissue or something more serious ?

I have recently been experiencing tears to my banjo string, probably 5 minor cuts over the past 6 months in a very similar area.

When the cuts have healed, it looks like there is scar tissue or even possibly warts growing in the area. These are not physically hurting but unfortunately make me feel on edge
