Partial Circumcision. A right decision?

Hi All, I am from Ireland and had a minor Balanitis but quite a major Phimosis problem. I am 35 and always had issues with tight foreskin. Though I had quite a good sex life (with condom and lubs). But when my wife And I decided to have a baby thats when things went wrong. I had a very painful sex, so I decided to fix the phimosis problem first.

I visited a local surgeon and he suggested a partial Circumcision and a loose frenulum procedure as well. The treatment went well approx 2.5 weeks ago and all the stitches are gone now. But the big concern I have after going through many blogs/post here is I should have gone for full circumcision. I can’t touch my glans and the head of penis has a reddish urethra which I showed to my doctor and he said it should go away in 4-6 weeks.

Can I ask people over here who have gone through partial circumcision, how long it took for you to come back to normal living without pain and discomfort? Thanks

I've not had a partial but I've got a low and loose, which means that when flaccid the ridge (corona glandis) on my penis is covered with skin. I'm something like 8 weeks in to recovery now and back in the saddle so to speak and all is fine. Slightly more sensitivity but manageable. Just give it time - certainly if it's painful with a partial circ now it would be way more painful/sensitive with a full circ. The redness around the tip is normal and either due to contact with clothing or possibly some residual balanitis caused by the phimosis. Stick with it, it should improve in a couple of weeks. Good luck!

Exactly thats basically a partial circumcision. Mine at flaccid is covered 75-80% with skin. Surgeon advised to do stretching exercise back and forth skin couple of times in a day which I am doing after applying a local anaesthetic cream on the red tip. Other than that I can take warm shower with my glans exposed. I am hoping to have this red tip recovered soon. Lets keep connected mate as I really need some psychological motivation. Thanks

You're welcome. I've also blogged my recovery at circ.blog - have a read through, it might help. The urethral opening (meatus) is very sensitive and if you think about it it's in contact with your underwear more than the rest of the glans, and it's getting wet from peeing. Prior to circumcision (Zoon's balanitis and BXO in my case) mine was almost red raw and it took around three weeks to settle down.

Yeah that’s normal mate,if you’d had a full circ like me it would be far more sensitive than a partial..took me 4-5 weeks to get to a bearable point. The redness will fade as your doc said,it’s just going to take a little time.😊

Hi

There is no wrong or right as we can’t predict everything even if you go the best doctor out there. Plus everyone’s a bit different so for one boy checking if the foresking retracts is a trauma cause it’s painful for many reasons and other one will feel pretty much nothing.

Were you able to clean and touch yourself before the procedure? I guess becaue of phimosis there were not enough stimulation so every little one now is a big deal. You’ll get used to it but you need just more time.

When I went to a urologist as young adult he insisted to removing frenulum as first step and potentially partial circ in the future. Of course I had many doubts after the first surgery – my body needed around six months to get the final result - I do not mean to heal but for foreskin to widen. But thats another side of the story. I feel your worries but don’t come to wrong conclusion it will be only better, and the pain? That’s nature for you, maybe if you know you will sit in one place for long time try uncovering the head fully so it will dry up a bit, to get used to the feeling.

Thanks for the reply. True I should be bit patient and wait for the outcome. In relation to your suggestion of keeping the heap uncovered if I am sitting for a long time might be an issue because if I retract the foreskin all the way back and leave it there, this would result in swollen frenulum because it would keep on trying to push the skin back to original position. Am i right here?
