Help with partial circumcision and steroid cream use

Hi there. I am considering having a partial circumcision but feeling a bit lost and unsure of it all.

I can pull my foreskin all the way back when soft, but only a little bit when erect and def not all the back. Am I missing out on extra pleasure like this?

I’m in my mid 30s, is it too late to try steroid creams and stretching devices? Or should I give that a go first?

I just had a consultation with a doc that didn’t leave me with my confidence at all.

They pitched me two procedures; a partial circumcision AND a Frenuloplasty - but I wasn’t convinced I needed both. I really don’t want a full circumcision as I still want a bit to play with, so to speak. But worried a partial procedure could be risky.

Any help or personal experiences much appreciated. Thanks guys.

Hi there,

You need to know your anatomy. We all are different down there. Of course it's better to try stretching first with lube or steroid cream. If it helps you don't need even partial at all.

There are two different things. You might have a bit tight foreskin (tip of it) and short frenulum. If you have a short frenulum it won't let you pull your foreskin further back to shaft.

Thanks so much for the reply. This is what I am wondering about. I’m not sure if I have a short frenulum or not. I definitely know I have a very tight tip. I was hoping the doc could have made some kind of judgement. I will definitely try stretching.

I got partial done and also the frenulum taken off. It doesn’t effect my erections and I still have super sensational orgasms. I’m glad I got the frenuplasty done so now I don’t rip it anymore. Maybe you can post a pic

Thank you! I have actually started some stretching exercises and I am surprised to see that there already seems to be a positive difference happening. I am going to gently continue with this before I consider the procedure I think.

How are you stretching?

The last you said you were trying stretching? Did you ever try the steroid creams?

I think I'm in a very similar situation: I'm also in my 30's, can pull the foreskin back when flacid but not when hard. Many doctors have recommended circumcision, but I have been dealing with it and really enjoy my sex life. They say that as long as you can clean it, the risk of cancer is not increased. Recently, I got a bad yeast infection that has been more annoying than the other ones (I've also gotten a few UTIs that I think were related to the phimosis)...but nothing that isn't manageable.

I keep going back and forth thinking about sexual pleasure: I know a circumcision and/or frenelum surgery would reduce sensitivity, however, being that the head is not exposed during sex (because of the phimosis), the end result might be more pleasure (the head would be less sensitive, but it would be exposed). Although, I also think that during sex and masturbation, the foreskin moving up and down (although not fully down) might massage the head. One doctor told me he thinks I could be missing out on a lot of pleasure.

My other concern is about paraphimosis. The way my foreskin is now, there is very little risk of paraphomisos during sex, because it's so tight. I'm afraid that if I use steroid creams, my foreskin will become loose enough to cause paraphimosis, but not loose enough to retract and return easily. I don't know if I have a short frenulum, but I believe that if the steroid cream worked, I might have trouble with the frenulum, but maybe not. I guess if the cream does get me into the paraphimosis danger range, I could get circumcised then.

It also seems hard to find good and understanding doctors. I think it's because this surgery isn't really something that urologists get awards for...they write papers about prostate cancer and robotic bladder surgery, not about adult circumcision. I'm glad that it's considered a routine surgery in terms of risks, but that is also what worries me (there doesn't seem to be much fuss about deciding how high or tight to do it). I'm also afraid that if the doctor never sees the penis erect, how would he know how much of a grower it is and thus how tight to stitch the skin.

Give me an update on how you're doing. Once I get this yeast infection done, I think I'll look for some steroid cream and try it for a month...then consider circumcision based on the outcome.

The surgeon who did mine tied rubber tubing around the base of my penis to create an erection before marking out where to cut. I don’t know how common this is but I know if he’d just cut the lot off I wouldn’t have had enough skin for a comfortable erection. Better too little than too much in my book.

Hi, I was wondering where you are based? In the UK there seems to be some resistance from medical professionals, or at least the urologists I have spoken with so far, to partial circumcision on grounds of aesthetics, whereas I am interested in it as a means of preserving as much foreskin as possible. Any circumcision would be for the same reasons you are considering although I may have a further complication of which I am awaiting confirmation. Is the proposed partial effectively removing the foreskin at the level of the phimotic band? Or is it dorsal slit approach? Many thanks in advance.
