I have just been circumcised today. I’m not in any pain atm due to pain relief.

I’m just on here to see if anyone who has had the procedure can give me any tips on how best to manage the next few days / weeks to aid recovery and manage any pain?

Thank you!

Were you given post-op instructions by your surgeon?

Hi mate

You should of been given aftercare info which is usually basic info. Once you are able to get the penis wet make sure you wash and dry your penis with a hair dryer. Your glans may be sensitive but it will decrease and settle as time goes on. If you feel stinging pain when you go for a pee you can apply Vaseline to the tip which will help. After showering so make sure you can apply Vaseline to the glans for a couple of weeks. After you remove the initial pressure bandage if you were given one you can proceed to keep applying fresh bandages to your penis twice a day for 2-3 weeks until you are healed enough to take the plunge into desensitising your glans getting it used to rubbing against your underwear.

Was your penis bandaged up after the procedure?

Try not to drink anything just before bed allow time from your last drink up until you go to sleep around 04:00am wake yourself up empty your bladder out this will help reduce morning glory.

Any pain once you are able to take medication again you can use over the counter medications such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.

Did you have glue or stitches?

Thank you that is really helpful! I had it done about 6 hours ago. I still have my bandage on but it’s pretty bloodied up, is that normal? Should I keep it on or replace it tomorro?

Follow the directions from your surgeon usually the bandage remains on up until your third day when you are able to get the penis wet now when you plan to remove it the bandage. You can fill the bath up to cover your penis so submerge your penis in salt warm water slowly peel the bandage of your penis and cut the excess bandage that you are unraveling leaving a small tab to continue to peel the bandage fully off. Then pour a jug or two of warm salt water allowing it to run down your waist area running all over the penis. Then jump in the shower clean fresh water running down your body don’t be in there too long jump out dry yourself up and you can use a hair dryer to dry your penis fully. Once dried apply Vaseline to your penis this will help cushion the glans keeping it protected reducing nasty stuff getting into your wound. It will help to sooth the glans keeping it also slightly moist which is key. Once you have healed enough you can apply bio oil to your scar line and a small amount to your glans to keep it moisturised e45 cream is also great just for the glans as since you are cut it is important to keep your glans moisturised to maintain sensations and also helps to keep your glans from drying out which is not what you want.

But also when you pee try to avoid getting your bandage soaked in urine this is also key as you want to minimise your chances of getting an infection. Monitor your penis any medical concerns speak to your surgeon or GP. My inbox is always open if you would like any helpful tips etc through your aftercare. I was circumcised in the summer so I know what it’s like. It’s not going to be a easy 3 days but once you can start cleaning it will be soo much better feeling. Shower twice a day from your 3rd day of recovery using a jug of warm water with table salt mixed in to help this will also help to minimise infection. I do definitely recommend re bandaging your penis especially in the early week or two since being cut. Today take it easy rest well when you can walk around the house naked and when in bed allow it to lay out flat and relax no heavy lifting or sports. If you work you can return to work within a few days to make yourself feel comfortable especially if your glans is still getting used to being out permanently so applying non stick bandages with Vaseline it will work wonders.

As an alternative to soaking in a bath you could just stand and soak it in a jug or bowl.

You may not feel any discomfort from the wound itself. However if your glans has hardly if ever been exposed then you will experience hypersensitivity initially. This will feel like an electroshock every time it touches anything. Over time this will diminish and the process is quicker the more contact it has. Good luck in getting through it.

Ocean-finance gives you good advice as he was circumcised late last year and knows what a new circumcision feels like and needs.

You will also find much useful supplementary advice in the medically approved Post-Op Care booklet at: circinfo.com/post-op_care/c...

When you pee mostly likely you are going to spray all over. Don’t freak out. We all sprayed like crazy for the first week or so. You might consider sitting on the toilet when you need to pee so that you don’t make a mess!

Yeah I’ve been sitting down because I’m of the bandage. I had phimosis that’s why I had to get it removed and it feels so different peeing lol. Not sore tho which is good

I had phimosis too mate. If you are stubborn like me haha you can purchase a jug and pee into it doing this you can monitor the colour of your urine to just in case and the amount roughly. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids water. After peeing you can use a clean hand towel Dab the corner with warm clean water and dab your pee hole area that’s what I do and still do.

I’m bleeding again, did this ever happen to you? I had to go back to my doctor yesterday cus I was bleeding afterwards. I’ve re bandaged, but it was coming through the bandage

A side effect is bleeding but I never had like excessive bleeding like if I got hard I’d notice a small amount of blood near the frenulum area but it was nothing to bad. But just monitor it and you can stop the bleeding yourself but if its too much like seriously you need to see a doctor or medical professionals ASAP don’t wait around.

When going to the toilet, sit down, do not stand, secondly, use baby wipes to clean yourself after eash pee session, to keep it clean. Bloody, swollen and messy looking is all normal sir after the procedure.

My recovery was going really well until last night, I used an ice pack to help with swelling but it made my penis extremely sensitive and felt inflamed afterwards.

Did this happen to anyone else? It still feels a lot more sensitive today than it did yesterday pre-ice pack.

I soaked my penis in a jug of water with some salt, have wrapped a tissue with Vaseline on it around my penis and taped it together, there is a small amount of yellow discharge on the tissue just beside the frenulum stitch area.

Is this a normal part or recovery? Any advice on how to deal with this, any at home treatments etc would be greatly appreciated!

Yellow discharge monitor it. Highly likely to be lymph which is totally normal just your body pushing out nasty stuff and doing what it supposed to do general healing process

Ice packs should not be placed directly on the skin they help with hard ons to reduce them and stop them but you must use a towel or don’t place it too long on the skin. I’d recommend you don’t as it’s your risk I risked it but I was cautious and it worked but always place a towel around the ice pack.

Swelling don’t try to do much to help the swelling go down quicker just allow your body to do the natural process. To help with swelling you can place the penis vertically to help drain the lymph etc away
