What happens when I go to the gp referring tight foreskin

I have a GP appointment due to the fact I believe my foreskin is to tight. However, due to my anxiety and social issues I'm absolutely terrified about what they will do. Is it just a checkup or is it a penis inspection.

Sorry for the stupid question.

As you are going about your penis then a doctor would not be doing their job without examining it. The doctor may prescribe some steroid ointment to assist you in making foreskin stretching more likely to be successful. If your skin is too tight, your doctor may refer you to an urologist.

Since the problem is with your penis, a check-up will involve an examination of your penis to determine if your foreskin is too tight and how best to procede.

Don't worry about it, the doctor will have seen many more penises than you've had hot dinners and will be totally professional about it.

The proposed treatment may just be creams and stretching exercises, or you may be referred to a urologist for further examination and treatment.

Sounds like the doctor will need a peek mate. Don't feel awkward about it (easier said than done - lol!). I had to have frenuloplasty surgery for a frenulum tear 20 months ago. The inspection took seconds and the doctor was very professional and unabashed at having to look - they see hundreds. I asked them not to touch me as the tear hurt to pull on, so I manoeuvred my own foreskin. The worst bit was trying to persuade the receptionist that a tear was a GP not A+E visit! The GP will most probably prescribe creams and stretching - but may mention circumcision which if you don't want it might sound alarming. From my experience GPs are unaware of other options or how some men "are" or "are not" happy to part with their foreskins - or what anxiety it can create when mentioned. Dont be shy to tell them your opinion! If you do need a referral please be reassured that circumcision is not always the only surgical option. There are also plastic surgery techniques such as preputioplasty and dorsal slit that can in some types of phimosis resolve the tightness without removing any tissue. A good urologist will know all about these techniques and be able to advise you.

If it comes to it, don't be afraid to make your preference and anxieties known. You don't have to consent to anything you are not at peace with if anythingat all! Your foreskin is priceless if you can get if comfortable and functional. Hopefully cream and stretching works for you.

Good luck with your penis

I know exactly how you feel.Don't worry, it's not a stupid question. It is a genuine concern that you have. I know, I have been there

I was in my teens when I had to visit the doctor about some concern with my penis. This is 40+ years ago so I don't remember exactly what the problem was. It was something minor by comparison to your phimosis.

Anyway, i get the appointment and was too embarrassed to mention the real reason for my visit. I had gone in with a backup ailment and discussed that instead.

I made another appointment and the same happened. I was too embarrassed to mention my concern.

The third appointment arrived and I had barely closed the door before blurting out the reason for my visit.

My doctor took time to talk to me about my concerns. He realised that I had been to see him three times in quick succession and asked if I was embarrassed to talk about it.

I told him that I was and he reassured me that it was a natural reaction.

He asked me to go behind the curtain and lie on the bed and lower my trousers and underwear. He gave me something to cover myself and asked me to let him know when I was ready. He came in and reassured me that there was no need to be concerned about the inspection. He asked my permission to uncover me. He then asked permission to inspect my penis. and even asked permission to touch me.

He reassured me about my worries and left so that I could get dressed.

I didn't tell him that one of my biggest concerns was that I would get an erection when he examined me.

I have now been examined by countless doctors over the decades and not once has that happened.

Many of my GP's have been female and nowadays have no concerns about talking about my genitals as every one of them has been completely professional.

I know how nervous you must feel. The closer the appointment gets the worse these feelings will become.

I suggest that you research some breathing techniques to help you relax. I was very sceptical of these until I started using them, They work very well.

In summary,

As others have said, your doctor will have examined countless genitalia throughout their career. you will be treated with respect and professionalism. you are unlikely to become erect during the exam, however, if you do you will still be treated with respect and professionalism as the doctors know how the genitals work. Sometimes these things happen without our control.

Best of luck.
