I have a boil on my penis and I am scared

Hi everyone,

Since I was about 15 (I am 22 now) I have had recurrent boils on the right hand side of the outside of my penis. I get them because I masturbate too often and without washing my penis afterwards. I get about 1-2 per year, sometimes I get none a year. Anyway this one is very, very large. I am very scared that it will not heal by itself even though all the other boils that I have had have healed by themselves. I am a virgin so it is not a STD.

I’m also scared that it could get septic (I saw this on the NHS website about boils) (I have both Generalised anxiety disorder and I am a massive hypochondriac) because this one is much bigger. I am too scared to go to the doctors about it as I feel that it will get better by it’s own and that they will tell me that I am overreacting. I have absolutely no idea what to do.

Go to your doctor and get it sorted before it becomes a greater problem. You also might want to look at your penis hygiene going forward.

What will they do? I am very frightened. What kind of greater problem are you talking about?

It may get larger! You will be examined and reassured. You will also have appropriate treatment.

You might think about going to your nearest Sexual Health Clinic. They specialise in such problems and the service is completely anonymous, i.e. they won’t contact your GP (unless you want them to).

It’s not a sexual health problem as I am a virgin

Sexual health isn't all about sexually transmitted diseases, they can help with this issue.

Update: So it’s still there unfortunately. It’s softer and I have no idea if it’s healing or not.

I feel fine otherwise.
