I have flaky / dry / peeling skin around 3 days ago, I'm extremely concerned as I ask my friend who had gone through circumcision and he said it never happened to him. I was wondering if this is normal?

It probably needs time to adjust as it may not have been exposed much previously, if at all. Also, as part of your recovery, if you’ve been bathing it in saltwater then that will dry it out. Others will weigh in and recommend applying coconut oil but any (preferably unperfumed) moisturiser or Vaseline might help.

I have a petroleum jelly Vaseline, do you know if it's safe to be applied to the glans?

Yes absolutely. When I had my frenulum removed the surgeon just applied a blob on the stitches so I know it’s OK.

It's part of the process, if your glans has never seen light before. Your condition now shouldn't be itchy at all. There will be a new keratinizated layer. You can put some moisturizer on glans.

It looks like you have blood clots on sutures. Have you heard about salt baths for just penis? Pour boiled hot water to tea mug and add 1/2-1 teaspoon of salt. When temperature has cooled down around 37°C. Put you penis in and soak it 5-15 min twice a day. It helps sutures and blood clots to loosen.

Epsom salt is the salt you use in the kitchen? Or is it different? I kept hearing about keratinization which will lesser the sensitivity, some people actually think it's better but others say they lost a lot of sensitivity that sex wasn't as enjoyable anymore, I was wondering if we should let keratinization happened or is it preventable on circumcised penis?

It's not exactly the same, but I used normal table salt and I'm fine, still. You can't stop keratinization, cause your head is now exposed all the time. You can still feel the touch, but touch of your undies is not unpleasant anymore then. I have read somewhere the skin of mucosal tissue and glans will be three times thicker than before.

Epsom salts (Magnesium sulfate) is a totally different compound to table salt (Sodium chloride) and there’s no evidence that it has any medical benefit in wound recovery.

The skin of a circumcised glans penis is no thicker than that of uncircumcised. This was proved as part of a BBC Horizon programme on the subject of circumcision some years ago. Dissection of around 30 male cadavers established there was no difference between both states.

Hi, it's normal to have some skin peeling on the glans after a circumcision it will help to desensitise your glans. If you wash with some salted water it will help just a small amount of table salt is fine and use a small mug or bowl.

When I was around 8 years old, I started to try and keep my foreskin pulled back. I loved the feeling of having my glans bare. My glans was a little sensitive , but the good feeling outweighed any discomfort. My lack of extreme sensitivity was most likely due to the fact that my mother was always pushing my foreskin back at every bath. Soon after I kept my foreskin retracted,, my glans pealed, just like a very bad sunburn. This scared me, so I recovered my glans with my foreskin and the peeling disappeared. A short time later, my desire to have my foreskin retracted, again overcame me. Again my glans peeled, so I recovered. About the third time retracting, my glans did not peel ever again.

I retracted my foreskin every chance I had, it would not stay back for any length of time, but I kept trying. At the age of 13, it did finally stay retracted, that is were I kept it till the day I was finally circumcised.

All those years of being retracted, my glans only peeled those two times.

By now when you read this, I am fairly certain that your glans will have shed the flakes and it will look like it use to, except it will never have any foreskin ever covering.

Enjoy your new circumcised penis,
