High Testosterone-panicking

Had my bloods tested to see how my testosterone levels are after starting testosterone gel (also on Estrogel and Utrogestan) and apparently my levels are 4.5, 3 times what they should be. GP plans to write to the consultant to see how we should go forward but to be honest I'm panicking I've done myself damage.

Has anyone else had experience of similar?

No need to panick, you would know by symptoms if it was too much.

Mine was 3.5 which is above the range too and consultant said certainly not over replaced and looked at ratio with oestrogen. I understood that being over the top of the lab range did not mean too much T.

Maybe g.p. is not best person to advise?

Hello AKatieD.... Using Testogel 40.05 mg sachet and I find the right amount from this sachet quite difficult to judge...It is designed for whole sachet use on men...us girls have to use one eight of that sachet...very precarious and difficult to judge... Have you been advised to use just a pea size amount from this tiny sachet? Only Australia produce a product for women only!! GP's do not know much about this stuff for females so are you using the just the pea size amount.?... If so can you cut it down to a smaller amount? Difficult I know. If you are extra worried you could cut that down to every other day until specialist has been contacted.. It is usual in UK that only a specialist will prescribe T for women... so I'm thinking you must have see one at the onset of use..can you not contact their department to ask for advise. Also what level of measurement is your GP using?.... nmol/L? From what I can make out there are 2 levels in one single reading.... My own research has found that ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 'The NHS will only look at total testosterone and not free testosterone or Shbg. Normally Shbg isn’t even ordered and if a free testosterone test is ordered it’s usually an unreliable assay.' ~~~~~~~~~~~All the different terms of measurements are very confusing and difficult to compare so I suggest that only your consultant or specialist should be involved in your readings and not just a GP. Please keep us informed about your journey into this....It would be very useful to know. Also does anyone know of any groups that are out there for us savvy women on Testosterone. It would be so useful to exchange information about our issues on line.

Thanks, @Cybrook, not sure if you meant me or OP as I was happy with level after consultant advice that it was not too high (SHBG high too).

I am using Androfeme (Australian) not Testogel. I was told that a pea would be too small and I should go for edamame bean size, but I still find that difficult to guess, so I am going to weigh it, as I do with Oestrogel (following the problems publicised over pump inaccuracy).

Hi AKD.....I think I meant the OP...sorry I have not been on here for years and was so thrilled to find something on the subject I did not click correctly...lol.. How professional it is that you are measuring by weight.. I want to do that with my T pea sizes and my Oest.pumps... Do tell us all your measuring process and what you are actually using that accurately measures such tiny amounts.. I cannot wait to do the same... Thank you...feeling excited about your concept .lol..

Hi again. Amazon sell little jewellers scales that are quite cheap and accurate to 0.01g. They have a little dish that you squirt your Oestrogel (1.25g per pump) or testosterone (0.5g for the typical dose) onto. I figure +/- 0.05g is accurate enough but not hard to get more accurate that that if you are fussier.

I used these for £10 but lots similar. May not be as accurate as they claim but probs be better than guessing and hopefully consistent:

AKD...I cannot thank you enough..I do not know why I did not think of jewellery scales... I am ordering today without fail... You have most cleverly solved my dosage worries..Great to find a like minded person... Do you know of any good groups that spill out good info on T use etc?

Only other one I can think of is Menopause matters who have a forum page like this one for queries and self help

Cant claim it as an original idea - think it was someone on MM who suggested and like you I thought "why didn't I think of that"

Thanks guys, the GP will keep me right but I think I'm definitely seeing some adverse symptoms, terrible acne in particular. Just a bit disappointed seeing as I know I was very lucky to have it prescribed in the first place!

sorry I know I’m late to this this post but I have just had my results back and my serum testosterone was 4.7, which has shot up from 2.3 after decreasing my dosage. Did you ever find out why yours was high and were you allowed to stick with the testogel after your result?
