HRT/Pain in head ???

hi All

So I wrote on here a few months back to ask advice on starting HRT now am asking about coming off it.

I was put on the oestrogen only patch because I have no womb and yes first few days feeling sick and headaches, I thought right early days keep going. Gets to my 3rd patch change and the next day my head was throbbing lasted a couple of days then few nice days.

mths patch was helping with my peri menopause symptoms, anxiety, panic attacks, hot flushes but my head it was killing and getting me down.

i carrried on everything was saying 6 weeks for side effects well I got to 7 weeks could not take any more I needed to know if it was the patches causing me so much headache (pardon the pun)

Well result headache/migraine full week post removal of her patch, spoke to my Gp 3 days post removal of patch he said yep that’s causing the headache/migraines it’s the hormones. Then said I have 2 choices stay on the patch put up with the headache or come off the patch and start antidepressants. Well I started to cry 😢 I thought this can’t be my only choice can it. I said shall I re start my patch tonight he said that’s up to you. I didn’t re start the patch, am now 8 days off the patch headaches/migraines improving slightly not 100% but better and doctor ringing me back Monday to chat about long term plan.

ADVICE

Anyone had bad headaches/migraines where u think is this really nothing serious ??

Do I ask for a different HRT such as the gel (don’t really want tables) or try anti depressant??

Sorry long post thanks for reading, any advice appreciated

Thanks

Xx

Hi Bassem1979,

Typical Gp response. They deem your issues will be costly and therefore put it down to mental health issues. They did that to me for years & refused to refer me. Move of address got me the referral & my symptoms were so severe, evolving and debilitating that a professor called stating it was blatantly obvious i had Fibromyalgia for absolute years 😡

I'd ask for another form of Hrt if I were you. That Gp is trying to test you to see if you'll stand up for yourself. Don't do that as it'll open you up to neglect & abuse from that Gp & the practice. Please don't do yourself a disservice by discounting tablets. It's the same as the drip feed of a medication from a patch. That Gp should never had allowed you to suffer with those migraines for so long. How cruel is that! So fed up with the gas lighting from Gp's.

I'd also research your condition and find out what the procedures, symptoms, treatment, medication etc should be. Empower yourself...about you, your needs and rights when it comes to your health.

I'd also see another Gp at the practice, or preferably go to the walk in centre, A&E or call NHS111. If you were given the Hrt by a hospital clinic, I'd call them back direct and ask for a review. Please let us know how you get on. All the best 😍

Hi there and welcome to to minefield of HRT! I like yourself have no womb and are using patches successfully. I also had exactly your symptoms with evil headaches when I started mine which were debilitating. Please ask your GP to switch you to a different brand of patches to try, I had my problems on Everol but have now been using Estradot successfully and symptom free for 6 years. Sadly not all GP’s will offer this due to costs 🙄 but I’m sure there’s a patch out there that may suit you too, be firm with your doctor and stick to your guns for your reasons to wanting HRT via a patch too. Best of luck Xx

Thank you

This gives me some relief knowing that I could still try a different HRT and not have the headaches. I will ask tomorrow when he ring me if not I will ask to speak to a different Gp.
