What age to start HRT

Hi

I just want to ask is 44 to young to start HRT ??

I had a hysterectomy a year ago (kept my ovaries) however my peri menopause symptoms are becoming worse and are affecting my daily life.

Doctors has palmed me off with blood test and SSRI medication which am not taking, I explained to her when I had my follow up with the consultant 3 mths after my op they said then I could go on HRT however my symptoms then where just crying all the time so I declined thought would see how I go.

Does the doctor think am too young to start HRT, am I too young to start HRT ?

Could I start on a low dose ? I would want a patch if I was to start it

can I ask some people what ages they were when they started HRT ?

Am trying to do as much research before I make my final decision, I have a GP appointment in 2 weeks.

HiFrom all the information I've read it's best to start early as then you have a smoother transmission to menopause and the health benefits are increased such as protection from heart disease, osteoporosis and alzheimers. Menopause Matters and the British Menopause Society are good sources of information as is Louise Newsons website. Sorry but can't seem to post links.
