Hives and Perimenopause

Hi, I've had severe hives for the past week, covering 70% of my body. I was wondering if this could be something related to my hormones, I've been perimenopausal for the last 2 years and wondered if anyone else has had this issue too?

I had this issue last year out of the blue and I didn’t know why. This was before I started HRT. It was awful it was so itchy I would cry and nothing would help so I completely empathise. After trying so many different creams it was only Sudocrem that offered me any relief.

Thank you for the advice. I'm back with the GP today so will see what they say.

All the best, my GP just gave me strong anti histamines which did nothing at all. Neither did calamine which is hard to get hold of.

She's taken me off my BP tablet ( Lercanidipine) as she believes it's a reaction to that. Also prescribed me menthol aqueous cream for the itching which I pick up today. Hopefully that helps.

Hi not sure if the hives are due to perimenopause i am 52 and suffering every horrible symptom. However well over 10 years ago I started getting hives all over my body I really feel for you. Some days I would have a few then I’d be plastered. After several trips to the doctors armed with photos as some of appointments I only had a couple of hives I finally after 7 months of suffering got referred to a dermatologist. I can remember the appointment vividly to this day I finally thought that I was going to get some sort of help but instead I was handed a leaflet titled idiopathic uritica telling me all about what I had and it is a thing but you guessed it the idiopathic part simply means they don’t know what causes it. I was dumb struck to say the least. The good news is it did eventually go. Sorry if this has made you feel worse and hopefully you won’t have it for long.

Hi, I have been given menthol aqueous cream and this has helped with the itching. I've also been taken off Lercanidipine as my GP thinks it was an allergic reaction. Hopefully this is the case and they clear up.
