Menopausal aches and pains

Hi all, I'm 62 and menopausal. Does anyone else have leg issues? I've cramp, achey legs, sore shins and sometimes leg gives way slightly when walking. GP says nothing to worry about but it's very uncomfortable. I'm also hot, like an internal oven, , not flushing, but not all the time. Oh the joys.

It’s hard to know whether to put ‘niggly symptoms’ down to age or menopause but….if your leg is ‘giving way’ don’t be palmed off.

After experiencing ongoing knee pain (it hasn’t yet reached the stage of giving way)..I was sent for an X-ray.

I definitely get the leg cramps sometimes at night.

Makes me nostalgic for the ones I used to get when I was pregnant.

One of the first ‘aches’ I got before my periods stopped was waking up feeling like my hands felt like claws. Got tested for arthritis, they just put it down to oesteoarthritis. That one actually got better.

Honestly life was so much easier when you just had periods to look forward to. ☹️

Hi

Yes I have what you are experiencing- pains in my legs - flanks, shins and calves - I had an X-ray - nothing showed up and I’m left with with my own conclusion that it’s down to oestrogen deficiency. I have several other health problems since having a total hysterectomy at aged 59. Up to that point I went through menopause with no significant symptoms. My ovaries were also removed and since then I’ve gone downhill health wise and experiencing a 2nd menopause!!! I’m now seeing a menopausal specialist on nhs and have started on a hrt oestrogen spray - too early yet to report changes but I believe a big decline in oestrogen has caused my new health problems. According to NICE all women are hormone deficient after menopause and if you want quality of life women can be on hrt lifelong. No gp tells us this!!! Maybe then hrt may help?

My GP won't prescribe it because of my age. She wasn't convinced I'm menopausal as I was "too old"

Well see another gp- menopause can continue for years!!! Some gps lack up to date knowledge of menopause matters and treatments. As a result the patient suffers. I’m 64 and there are ladies who take it in their 70s and they have such an improved quality of life that they say they will continue hrt until end of life and why not!!!

Try eating bananas everyday because my husband was having leg cramping also and he ate bananas and it improved. You might be low on potassium and bananas have loads of potassium. Potatoes are also good for that. He has to eat them everyday or it comes right back. Give it a try!
