Feeling on my own with this

Hi ladies, I stumbled on this group by luck. I'm 46 and I think I have been going through perimenopause for 10 years. Just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this (I think I'm going mad!)

Up to now, I have been suffering from the urge of needing to urine more often but it comes and goes throughout the day. My appetite is non-existing which is making me really low.

When I went for a smear 2 months ago, they said I have thrush in my gut so I started using a mouth gel which caused me to break out a rash around my mouth. To cut a long story short, I'm on Fluconazole which I'm taking one dose every week and after 4 doses I'm not showing any clear signs of it working. I have just started using Canesten cream down below and now it feels so itchy!

🤔 You may have Candidiasis ..I have problems myself if I over indulge on yeast, sugar and carbohydrates. As well as taking Fluconazole..take a good Probiotic..and have a good look at your diet

Thanks so much, I will have a look in to Candidiasis! My diet has become a lot more healthy since I met my husband 10 years ago and 6 months after, that was when my symptoms started. Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm now taking Folic acid now.

Hi Pimmy76

Another suggestion is you maybe suffering from vaginal dryness or known as vaginal atrophy.

This is what I now believe I am suffering from.

It started like you, that I was wanting the toilet all the time, and going, but 10 mins later going again. Then just before a period I would develop thrush really bad.

This has been going on for 9 months, over the counter creams helped a bit.

Now I’m experiencing this all the time, thrush, cystitis and going to the toilet all the time constantly.

I’ve spoken to my GP and told again to take over the counter things, an urine sample showed normal.

However, as it was effecting my everyday life, I’ve now been given antibiotics. This isn’t helping. I’ve been given some ovestin cream and also vagifem to use and I use a vaginal moisturiser called yes.

When we talk about vaginal dryness, we often think they we don’t have this because it isn’t dry, but, it covers all sorts.

There is a book I’ve been reading that may help and recommend to me.

Me and my menopausal vagina by Jane Lewis. If you Google Vaginal dryness this may help too.

Best wishes

Hi Peanut31,

I had to go to the walking centre Tuesday and it turned out that I had a really bad water infection. So touch wood, the antibiotics have done the trick. However, I'm terrified in case the feeling comes back now that I have finished the course.

Also, the nurse gave me drops to put on my tongue to get rid of thrush so hopefully, between the 2 and the Fluconazole, I'm on the right track to being my normal self.

Hi Pimmy76

Antibiotics won’t help if it isn’t an infection.

Antibiotics didn’t for me as just finished them, it’s part of the menopause unfortunately, so now on vagifem and the Yes moisturiser.

However, as you mentioned you do have an infection, hopefully, it will clear up.

If you do continue getting infections then do consider you maybe suffering with Vagina atrophy and as Belle76 has said you may need oestrogen.

Best wishes

Hi Peanut,

That was what the first doctor said I had in terms of Vagina Atrophy but he gave me estrogen cream. It didn't make a difference.

This might sound weird but a few days before I come on and when I'm on, I feel back to normal. I don't feel the urge to go for a wee.

Hi

My urine issues use to start just before a period and then whilst on too. Now it’s all the time.

The cream given called Ovestin did nothing for me, but, vagifem (it’s a small tablet you insert in your vagina) is helping me.

I’m also using YES vaginal moisturiser daily to and that is helping with the itch and burning feeling.

It’s not fully gone away, it won’t if you have vaginal atrophy, but I’m managing my symptoms more.

Best wishes & good luck.

Hi Peanut,

I had Vagem too about 5 months before the first lockdown and it didn't work either. In fact after 12 weeks in, it was felt like rubbing salt in to a cut and the next morning I would bleed abit.

Hi Pimmy76

It was Ovestin that did not work for me, Vagifem is working.

Best wishes

you may need localised oestrogen, to help with toilet urges and or HRT. May help, definitely cut down on sugar eat natural yoghurt and a good probiotic for women.
