Hi All,
I just joined this group. I'm more often on the thyroid group but I just did a blood test to check out my sex hormones as per the advice in Paul Robinson's book 'The Thyroid Patient' manual'. I am post menopausal, age 70 plus. I don't take any HRT currently, just thyroid hormones. Anyway the 2 results that stand out and that I need to understand are:
Progesterone: 0.8 nmol/L (postmenopause <0.401)
Oestradiol: <18.4 pmol/L (postmenopause <100)
I calculated the progesterone / oestradiol ratio and it comes out to 42.75 I think, which makes me oestrogen dominant. Can anybody confirm that I have got this right as I haven't done it before?
Paul says in his book that optimal progesterone for post menopause is 25-32 nmol/L which he knows is a lot higher than what is shown on the lab results. Does anybody know if he is right about this?
I am about 90% optimal on my thyroid meds but I have sleep disturbance. I wake frequently, especially between 4 - 5:30 am. Sometimes I don't get back to sleep and then my whole day is ruined. I am testing my cortisol for this too. My DHEAS was around mid level.
Do you think that these results give a clue to my sleep disturbance and do they indicate that I could do something about it?
Many thanks,
June
