my son had bacterial meningitis with encephalitis and brain abscess in 2007, he was 15 and had some seizures.he was put in pharmacological coma for 2 days. spent ,in all ,5 weeks in hospital and another week coming and going to receive intravenous antibiotics

afterward he had two take epanutin for 2 and half years , that kept him from drinking .

today he is 19 and last week he confessed that he shared a vodka bottle between two before going out to disco. I was shocked as i remember the neurologist had told him to be moderate with drinking.

Obviously he started to drink boozing like many teenagers do at weekends, we live in Malta where alcohol is abused by the majority.

I am sorry to hear that your son has suffered from meningitis and encephalitis and the subsequent problems this has caused. I can understand your concern about the risk to your son’s health, especially as he has admitted to drinking a large amount of vodka on this occasion.

We are not able to answer your question about the effects of alcohol on your son’s “brain scar” or the interaction of alcohol with drugs. Each case is individual. I would suggest that you discuss these concerns with a doctor who is aware of your son’s medical history and the drugs he has been prescribed.
