I have both Vm and bm and I’m so confused

I’m in hospital currently with viral meningitis I came in Monday morning (4days ago) with a severe headache that sold had for two days and knew want right, day two after a lumber puncture I was told I had viral meningitis. Today I was told I also was showing in my results signs of bacterial meningitis to. Iv never heard of some one having both? My only symptoms where the excruciating head ache, a rash and sniff neck, my obs have been fine through out however I’m being kept isolated and have been told I could be here for 10 days, I’m being pumped with antibiotics and steroids via IV plus many pain killers and blood thinners. Has anyone had a similar experience I’m really confused and don’t know wether I’m really ill and the meds are coving it or all this is just a unnecessary precaution x

I'm sorry to hear you are in hospital with meningitis, I suppose the doctors will perform tests to determine which one you have. In my case, I had bacterial meningitis, but as soon as I arrived in hospital they started with all protocols, antivirals/ antibiotics/ brain scans, etc. they even wanted to discard an aneurism since until they performed me a lumbar puncture the following day they were not 100% sure what it was. I am sure you are in good hands, so have faith that you will feel better soon. I wish you a speedy recovery,, but be patience with yourself.

Thanks for your reply I’m home now, I was in for 2 weeks and ended up being told I was also suffering from encephalitis iv been home 3 weeks took longer than expected just to be able to do basic things like wash and dress my self I was so weak, suffered tremors and stiffness as well as severe tiredness, now I’m back in work but finding my memory has taken a big hit, I’m finding the most basic things like remembering my route home from work and forgetting how to open my microwave, really silly things like that but quite unpleasant. Don’t think il ever be 109% how I was before x

I too had both bacterial & viral meningitis. About killed me. I was in ICU for almost a month being pumped with IV antibiotics. I'd do whatever they need to and stay on them to get it all. I hate to say I'm 4 mos post and there is still lots of healing going on.
