Hi there. Just joined to ask a question. My son had viral meningitis at 4 weeks old and ended up on a ventilator for a week. Now he’s 5 and although fine physically I worry that he’s attention span and general concentration isn’t v good. Has anyone had experience of this? Could this b due to the meningitis? He has a twin so hard to c how different they are.

It could be due to meningitis but then again, it could also be due to being 5. That is not at all uncommon for 5 year olds. Unfortunately, it would be near impossible to tell at this point whether meningitis was the actual cause, something else, or just due to whatever stage he is going through. There are behavioral therapists for children his age that have incredible techniques to train attention span and self-control. That would be good to look into. They would also be able to tell you where in the normal bell curve he is for attention. Even highly functioning adults can have major attention span and focus issues.
