I have joined this group because my adult son is living with Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease and Type 2 diabetes and has learning disabilities. He lives independently with support for an hour or so each day. He had a home visit from his Renal Nurse to begin the conversation about dialysis. I would be interested to know of any publications which use easy language to describe/explain to him the process of preparing for and receiving dialysis.

Hello Hidden

Welcome - it is lovely to have you here.

I have had a look and I can find very little about accessible information about dialysis. I have found a video, and a PDF from Essex

It would be worth asking the Renal Nurse to help with this. You are allowed to ask for information in a format that your son can understand.

Best wishes

Sarah

Hello Sara, many thanks for your help. I watched the video and have to say that if my son is expected to remember the process as well as understand what to do if it goes wrong is probably beyond him. I will talk to his dialysis nurse and warn her that he will need someone there to take care of the process for him. Wakefield.
