New to the area and need help

Hello all,

My names Rob I’ve recently moved to the Bournemouth area a few months ago, I’m looking to get back into paid work but in typical Job Centre fashion they don’t care or aren’t interested in my situation on how my Hydrocephalus affects me.

I’ve always struggled with the prejudice from employers on and off for years but for my own well being I just want to get back into work but find an employer who is understanding and willing to take a chance on me. I’m sick of having to go into the Job Centre trying to justify myself or them putting me forward for jobs that aren’t suitable

Rob. Under the Equalities Act nobody is allowed too discriminate, that includes job centres.

if you feel you are send in written complaint and cc too your MP.

I may do, I know I have limitations and whether I like it or not I have to accept it. It would just be nice for an employer to give me an opportunity not just dismiss me because I have a few challenges

Hi Rob, I'm not familiar with Bournemouth, I'm sorry to say. I'm located in Liverpool. However, maybe you could consider copywriting? Your writing is impeccable and you could have great flexibility from being your own boss in a freelance sense, maybe? My friend had good things to say about the website 'People Per Hour.' I haven't used it myself but he it was really helpful for him to get his CV out there and get into an industry that he now loves. Maybe this could help. Kate.

I haven’t ever thought of that in all honesty, in an ideal world I’d like to get back into youth work in some way having had a great experience mentoring and helping some of the younger members at my local mencap and making a difference to their lives.

Amazing! I'd like to do the same, as it happens but I have no qualifications in the area. I hope you can find something to bridge the gap in the meantime. I think it's hard but it's worth it

Well for what it’s worth my advice to you is to start by getting involved via volunteer work, then your foots in the door as it shows willingness to help others without any personal gain. Then after a while when a role does come up you can use that same experience and those employers will see you did the voluntary which will prove to be a good thing for you
