COVID VACCINATION..........how do I find out when my 38 year old daughter with Learning Disabilities will be eligible for her vaccInation. People with LD’s do not appear on the list of priorities. She is far more at risk than an able bodied person of the same age and is unable to completely self isolate as she is reliant on carers to look after her in a ‘Supported Living’ setting.

I would be grateful if anyone can give advice.

Thank you

There is in fact guidance for GPs that would allow them to classify certain people with LD in the clinically extremely vulnerable group, so at level 4 rather than 6. It states that people with chronic neurological disease includes individuals with cerebral palsy, severe or profound learning disabilities, Down’s Syndrome, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease and related or similar conditions; or hereditary and degenerative disease of the nervous system or muscles; or severe neurological disability. It is therefore worth speaking with her GP.

Hello Masquerade as Iolo replied there is guidance on Gov.org website however the vaccinations are slowly getting underway and they will be doing all the high priority first.I can understand that a lot of people would think that their relative would be high priority but the deaths are occuring in the very old.We all, including me , have to be very very protective until and also after our time comes to get the injection. The vaccination will help but we still need to be careful and stay safe.

Looking through the statistics for 2019 there appears to be around over 30 million people over the age of 30 and if all of these people get the vaccination it might be around the middle to the end of April when your daughter and my son get the vaccination, however we fit into the higher priority so we will be getting it sooner. I was only playing with figures but you can see that if the aim is to get 13 million done by end of February then 2 months further on will be 39 million?

Stay safe and take good care both of you

Thanks for responding. I have now located an information leaflet on the roll out of the vaccine for LD’s from Mencap
