This lists people with LD as at increased risk from Covid.
So why are poeple with LD excluded from having Covid vaccines this autumn? Most especially when their death rate from Covid is 3 times that of the general population?

They better not be otherwise we will fight that one, I will check this out. Mencap moderators if this is correct Mencap need to be doing something to highlight this as we did last time and got somewhere and people with LD were given it so that should be the case this time. More than happy to help like I did before.
My daughter will be going for her Covid vaccination next week. When she got her invite for flu vaccination the surgery sent a text to say if want covid vaccination it can be done on the same day, just give them a ring.Maybe not been publicised enough this year, but just said on BBC breakfast the roll out is going to be put forward by 3 weeks due to new variant.
We are thanks. We have booked flu vaccinations for 30th September. Might have to go elsewhere for covid test due to surgery not doing them since last year. Probably check our local hospital like last year.
Hi Jofisher , have replied elsewhere on the thread but just to confirm, we've been told by NHS England that people with a learning disability are eligible for the Autumn booster.
The information is buried quite deeply in the government's official guidance, in what they call "The green book" in chapter 14 - here's a link to the super long PDF... assets.publishing.service.g...
But the important thing is that it clearly states that people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, Down's syndrome, or people on the learning disability register with their GP will receive an invitation to get the booster. So now would be a good time to make sure loved ones are on the learning disability register with their doctor.
Agree. Makes no sense. My son is very healthy, always has been. He has no medical issues at all and hasn’t seen a doctor for illness for over 20 years. He’s 24! Why he’s more at risk than the next person is beyond me. He wouldn’t let anyone inject him regardless so that is taken as his choice not to have it.
He’s completely vaccine free up until a few years ago when he was given the first covid vaccine. Unfortunately without deputyship I was powerless to stop it. I know he wouldn’t have willingly let them do it though.. Thankfully where he lives now they take his “no” when shown the needle as his refusal.
Please please do some research on the vaccines before having another one. There are many doctors and scientists raising concerns about their safety and effectiveness both here and abroad. And many people have been injured by them and even died from adverse reactions. Here are links to articles by Dr Aseem Malhotra a highly respected UK cardiologist.
Speak to his GP speak to Mencap and anyone else involved in your sons care and I would even consider going to his MP don’t leave any stone unturned to get what he needs
really glad you managed to get the vaccine - well done. We had an issue with our health centre who said my son was only eligible for the flu jab, but not the covid jab, even though he is on the LD register at that practice. the annoying thing is they were more then happy for me to have it on the grounds I am a carer... how bonkers is it that they will vaccinate the carer but not the person being cared for...the daft thing is, he had already had it a few days before, at a walk in clinic where they didn't argue for a second....
Glad you got him vaccinated despite your health centre's refusal. On what grounds did they refuse him the jab? If he's on the disability register then he was eligible!
we didnt get that far - I said well that's funny cos he had it at the big walk in centre.... that kinda took the wind out of their sails. Saying that if he hadn't had it I would have kicked up a huge fuss demanding they explain their stance and he would have got it the thing that annoys me is without me to shout his corner.. he would go without . And THIS is , in my opinion, why people with LD have suffered more from covid than others, because lots don't have someone shouting for them.
