Omeprazole

I have been prescribed 20mg Omeprazole for a problem of wind which causes pain and a very uncomfortable feeling in my chest area & up to my throat. However upon reading what Omeprazole treats it states gastric/ acid which I don't experience!!

I have been researching my symptoms and believe it to be either a lack of digestive enzymes or /& helicobactorpylorie?

Any observations would be greatly appreciated before I start taking Omeprazole

Hi. I am retired and am on the same med. It seems most others around my age are too. Its a very common med.

As we age our digestion becomes less efficient and more sluggish which causes the symptoms.

I would start taking it to see if it works. It does fine on me. If it doesn't is the time to re visit your dr.

The symptoms you're having may very well be from having stomach acid leaking up into your esophagus. A medicine like omeprazole is meant to be taken to let any irritation heal. It does take a little bit of time though, so you have to take it every day. Often diet changes, stopping some habits like lying down after eating, smoking, drinking too much alcohol or caffeine can then prevent symptoms from coming back.
